Key Responsibilities:
Perform hygiene clinical procedures, including, periodontal maintenance, scaling and root planing, sealants, fluoride, oral cancer screenings and x-rays
Educate patients on the importance of oral hygiene, as well as instructions and demonstrations of effective oral hygiene methods
Communicate with doctor where there are opportunities in patients for restorative and/or periodontal needs

Provides clinical oral hygiene services including dental prophylaxis, scaling, sealant application and fluoride application consistent with accepted professional practices and standards and in compliance with applicable state law and the center's clinical protocols.
Integration of appropriate patient dental hygiene care with other heal care professionals involved in the patient's health care management
Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education in the community as requested.
Performs independent procedures as delegated and directed by a dentist in accordance with state regulations and law as well as Dental Department protocol and directive.
Performs all functions in full compliance with the center's and the Dental Department Exposure Control Plan including but not limited to the use of Personal Protective Equipment and Universal Precautions.
Participates in appropriate health promotion / disease prevention activities, both on-site and off-site as required.
Assists with various clinical and administrative functions of the center as appropriate and time permits.
Insures the proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials in accordance with Dental Department directive and center policy as well as state federal regulations(s).
Complies in full with the center's Exposure Control Plan.

Key Responsibilities:
Perform hygiene clinical procedures, including, periodontal maintenance, scaling and root planing, sealants, fluoride, oral cancer screenings and x-rays

GENERAL SUMMARY: An On Call non-exempt, position responsible for assisting the dentist(s) and dentalhygienist(s) in the direct provision of primary care dental services to patients of the center. The Dental Assistant is also responsible for sterilization, preparation, and inventory control of dental instruments and supplies. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED certificate
Completion of accredited course in dental assisting preferred
Ability to attend to multiple tasks at the same time and to prioritize assignments and responsibilities to ensure compliance with established deadlines and protocols.
Effective oral and written communication skills in English are required. Effective oral communication skills in Spanish preferred.
Certified Dental Assistant preferred
Current CPR (BLS) required
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Lifting up to 50 lbs with or without an accommodation.
Carry up to 20 lbs occasionally.
Standing 1-2 hours at a time
Walking approx. 30 minutes per hour throughout the day.
Withstanding pressure and deals with emergency situations as needed.
Average working hours with possible non-traditional hours.
Potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.
Ability to deal with upset or disgruntle patients in order to deescalate the situation.
SPECIFIC DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists patients in resolving minor difficulties, answering their questions and giving directions to patients as authorized by the dentist or dentalhygienist.
Serves as dentist's or dentalhygienist's chair-side assistant.
Prepares operatory for patient treatment as per Dental Department protocols and the dentist's or dentalhygienist's directions.
Exposes and develops dental radiographs in accordance with state regulations and law as well as Dental Department directive and protocol.
Performs independent procedures as delegated and directed by the dentist in accordance with state regulation and law and Dental Department directive and protocol.
Maintains Dental Department equipment in accordance with manufacturer's directions and Dental Department policy and protocol.
Maintains all Dental Department areas in compliance with Dental Department directives and protocols as well as center policies and procedures relative to infection control, exposure control and safety issues.
Maintains adequate operatory supplies and compiles a list of individual item shortages for inventory control and ordering purposes.
Maintains a list of all Dental Department patients, monitors patient flow, and assists the Dental Director, dentist(s) and dentalhygienist(s) in assuring that all patient records and documents are properly and accurately completed and filed.
Pulls and files patient charts as required.
Receives and places necessary telephone calls consistent with professional matters, clinic business and patient care of the Dental Department.
Assists with various clinical and administrative functions of the center as appropriate and time permits.
Insures the sterility of all reusable dental instruments and equipment in accordance with Dental Department directive and protocol.
Insures the proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials in accordance with Dental Department directive, center policy as well as state and federal regulation(s).
Performs all functions in full compliance with the center's and the Dental Department Exposure Control Plan including but not limited to the use of Personal Protective Equipment and Universal Precautions.
Participates in appropriate health promotion / disease prevention activities, both on-site and off-site as required.
Participates in Quality improvement activities that include identifying clinical problems, participates in quality improvement teams and evaluating effectiveness of program improvements.
As directed by a supervisor, performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives.
Responsible for personal compliance in full with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures including but not limited to the participation of a Dental Assistant in the provision of clinical dental care, as well as those relating to, but not limited to personnel issues, workplace safety, public health and confidentiality.
Assist the patient in obtaining, processing, and understanding basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions.

How You'll Make a Difference
As an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant, you will perform daily duties to help create lasting impressions and build trust and loyalty with patients.
* Assist with the direction to DA office team throughout the day to maintain productive patient flow.

* Complete denture soft relines and manufactures temporary crowns.
* Monitor and aid in management of laboratory cases.
* Perform quality intraoral health scan of patients under 5 minutes.
* Understanding of clear aligner process with the ability to articulate and teach.
* Ability to take quality impressions and bite registrations.
* Perform additional expanded functions based on certification(s) to support patient care (coronal polishing, restorative functions, etc.).
* Ensures emergency kits and oxygen tanks are maintained.
* Ability to order and maintain supplies in accordance with practice budget.
* Perform various office tasks as necessary.
Requirements and Qualifications
* Current Dental Assistant License, Registration, Certification as required by state.
* Radiology (x-ray) certification as required by state.
* Current CPR or BLS certificate.
* 2+ years' experience as a Dental Assistant.
* Proficient at chairside assisting/four-handed dentistry.
* Demonstrate and provide instruction on proper sterilization and infection control techniques.
* Maintain and update annual CE requirement as specified by state.
* State Certification in expanded functions as required by state.
