What you will be doing:
Patient Management
Work with Administrative Assistant to schedule hygiene patients efficiently and review the schedule daily
Accurately chart each patient's periodontal health Perform thorough and gentle prophylaxis for patients including scaling, root planning, selective polishing, polish restorations, fluoride treatments, and sealant application as necessary.
Administer local anesthetics, if allowed by dental practice act
Place medicaments subgingivally for periodontal disease treatment
Take radiographs of patients as prescribed by dentist
Communicate with patients in an understandable and professional way
Check on patient comfort during treatment and help allay patient anxiety
Accurately and appropriately record provided treatment
Teach patients proper oral hygiene techniques and counsel on the role of nutrition in oral health.
Perform other tasks assigned by the Dentist
Treatment Room Management and Sterilization
Check and turn on treatment room equipment
Disinfect/clean treatment room in between patients including disinfecting surfaces and soiled instruments in accordance with company procedures
Breakdown treatment room at the end of the day and turn off equipment
Maintain sufficient inventory of hygiene supplies. Submit supply orders to Business Manager as necessary.
Sort and package instruments by tray for proper sterilization
Load, activate and vent the sterilization unit according to manufacturer's directions
Records Management
Securely store and handle patient records in compliance with office policies and procedures and applicable legal requirements, such as HIPAA regulations
Accurately record and update medical and dental histories in patient file
Maintain organization of patient charts
Assist in the administration of the recall system
Office Participation
Be an active participant in team meetings
Participates in team huddles, daily
Promote team concept by interacting with others in the office
What you will need:
Must be licensed to practice in state and meet other applicable state requirements
Must have completed at least 2 years of post-secondary education from an accredited dental hygiene program
Experience providing prophylaxis and taking X-rays
Good interpersonal skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentists and coworkers

The Dental Hygienist provides patient education, intra-oral and extra-oral screenings of every patient seen, prophylaxis cleaning and polishing of the teeth, and Root Scaling and Planning for periodontal disease per practice protocols and as directed by the dentist. Greet and welcome all assigned patients.
Conduct a medical and dental history with every patient, contacting outside physicians when appropriate, before care.
Complete a thorough intra- and extra-oral exam for all patients.
