The Registered DentalHygienist (RDH) will perform a wide range of duties in the dental clinic under direct supervision of a dentist, including the provision of periodontal and preventative dental treatment, oral hygiene education, and community outreach.
This position requires the flexibility to travel from site to site if needed.

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS/TRAINING
Education:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Graduated from a dental hygiene program approved by the Dental Hygiene Board of California (DHBC).
Experience/Lived Experience:
Previous Dental Hygiene experience preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills; Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills required; must have ability to handle difficult patients.
Computer and data entry skills required; electronic health record system experience preferred.
Knowledge of Federally Qualified Health Centers and Medi-Cal coverage preferred; Ability to work with diverse populations required.
Special Skills/Training:
Current CPR certification required.
Must be licensed to practice dental hygiene in the State of California.
Proof of completion of a board-approved Radiation Safety, CaliforniaDental Practice Act, and Infection Control course.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
Provides direct patient care to children and adults within approved in approved RDH duties by California Code of Regulations a primary care setting.
2.
Performs patient screening procedures such as assessment of oral health condition, review of the health history, oral cancer screening, head and neck evaluation, dental charting, and patient vitals.
3.
Assesses patients' teeth, bone, and periodontal tissues indicating the presence of any abnormalities or suspected diseases or conditions and notifies dentist.
4.
Assists the dentist with developing and completing appropriate periodontal treatment plans.
5.
Serves as a member of the care team, engaging in routine and preventive dental care.
6.
Instructs patients how to practice good oral hygiene; makes recommendations as to appropriate products or devices for patients' home care; and provides other health care education such as nutritional counseling and motivational interviewing, as necessary.
7.
Thoroughly removes soft and hard deposits and extrinsic stains from teeth using hand instruments, ultrasonic inserts, and hand pieces.
8.
Performs full mouth debridement, either as a first stage gingivitis therapy or to remove interfering calculus to further enable a more accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.
9.
Provides local anesthesia as needed for treatment procedures.
10.
Irrigates sub-gingivally with an antimicrobial and/or antibiotic liquid solution
11.
Applies preventive agents such as fluoride and sealants to the tooth surfaces and assists the dentist, as required, in further treatment of teeth and gums.
12.
Takes digital x-rays and intra-oral photos of patients.
13.
Maintains patient electronic medical records with thorough documentation practices.
14.
Performs instrument maintenance, including sharpening of hand scalers.
15.
Supports outreach programs and remote sites by providing education, screenings, imaging/record gathering, preventive services, and documentation
16.
Attends and participates in required meetings, trainings, and educational programs.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a Dental Assistant - Surgical. The Prosthodontist Dental Assistant works under a dentist's supervision to prepare equipment that will be used in dentistry procedures, to ready patients for these procedures, and to help the dentist during these procedures by passing instruments, holding the suction catheter in place, and generally anticipating the dentist's needs. Some Other responsibilities may include sophisticated functions such as removing sutures, processing x-rays and taking the oral impressions that are used to fit crowns.
Responsibilities:
Work under the direct supervision of the Prosthodontist
Perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties, including but not limited to providing chair-side assistance while dentists examine and treat patients.
Ensure patients are as comfortable as possible in the dental chair, prepare them for treatment, and obtain their dental records.
Hand instruments and materials to dentists and keep patients' mouths dry and clear by using suction or other devices.
Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment, prepare trays of instruments for dental procedures, and instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care.
Prepare materials for impressions and restorations, take dental x rays, and process x-ray film as directed by a dentist.
Handle other radiological equipment and assist patients with these procedures as directed by a dentist
Perform office duties as needed including: scheduling and confirming appointments, receiving patients, keeping treatment records, sending bills, receiving payments, and ordering dental supplies and materials.
Assist in specialty areas such as oral surgery, periodontics (treatment of gum disease) and prosthodontics (replacement of missing teeth) including dental implantology
Support and assist the hygienist as needed, including but not limited to cleaning trays, room setups and cleanups.
Help track the inventory of the prosthetic supplies and keep the storage closet organized.
Support the radiographic needs of the Patient Education Consultants, Oral Surgeon, & Hygienists.
Working Conditions:
Dental assistants work in a well-lighted, clean environment.
Work area is usually near the dental chair to allow for arranging instruments, materials, and medication and handing them to the dentist when needed.
Dental assistants must wear gloves, masks, eyewear, and protective clothing to protect themselves and their patients from infectious diseases.
Follow safety procedures to minimize the risks associated with the use of x-ray machines.

Patient Assessment: Perform comprehensive assessments of patients' oral health status, including examining the teeth, gums, and soft tissues, as well as evaluating oral hygiene practices and risk factors for dental diseases.
Dental Procedures: Use specialized instruments and techniques to conduct dental cleanings, provide periodontal therapy, apply sealants, take and interpret dental radiographs (x-rays), conduct oral cancer screenings, administer fluoride treatments, and more.
Patient Education: Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices and provide personalized recommendations for oral care products and preventative measures. Offer guidance on the relationship between diet and oral health, and provide resources and support for smoking cessation.
Collaboration: Collaborate with dentists and other team members to develop and execute individualized treatment plans for patients. Communicate findings, recommendations, and referrals effectively to ensure continuity of care.
Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including clinical notes, treatment plans, and radiographic findings. Document assessments, interventions, and patient education efforts in accordance with legal and professional standards. Monitor and document periodontal measurements to track the progress of treatment.

🛠️ What You'll Do
Every day will bring variety and challenge. You'll be:
Assisting in oral surgery procedures (local & IV sedation)
Preparing trays, sterilizing equipment, maintaining stock
Recording vitals, assisting in consults, and supporting patients throughout their visit
Preparing medications, assisting with anesthesia, and delivering clear post-op instructions
Taking x-rays, impressions, and photos as needed
Ensuring smooth communication with referral doctors and keeping treatment plans organized
📋 Requirements
Vaccinations: Hep B & Tetanus
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Infection Control, X-ray License
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant Certification (preferred)
