Apply preventive materials to the teeth (e.g., sealants and fluorides) Make impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth used by dentists to evaluate patient treatment needs)
Promote an atmosphere supportive of good dental and general health by demonstrating proper oral hygiene, educating patients on techniques of flossing and brushing in accordance with protocol, effectively communicating oral hygiene instructions, nutritional counseling, and dispensing proper oral hygiene aids
Maintain a sterile and neat working environment according to current infection control procedures.
Familiarize the patient with the aspects of their dental visit and provide support and compassion to that patient.
Chart entire dentition and hard and soft tissue evaluation, including existing restorations, decay, perio charting and treatment documentation
Provide positive, professional leadership role; demonstrate positive patient/staff rapport.
Stock all needed supplies and maintain equipment.
Successfully maintain recall system.
Demonstrate basic knowledge of applicable computer functions.

Job Responsibilities
Assess dental condition and needs of patient using patient screening procedures, including medical history review, dental charting, and perio charting
Deliver direct patient care using established dentalhygienist procedures
Take patient vital signs
Perform routine treatment procedures, such as cleaning and polishing
Take radiographs required for diagnosis of treatment needs by the dentist
Apply sealants and fluorides
Electronic record keeping
Document patient dental history and chief complaint
Record and report pertinent observations
Teach patients how to prevent tooth decay and gum disease through proper diet and oral homecare
Clean and sterilize instruments
Complete Treatment Plan as prescribed by the dentist
Review and explain treatment plan and associates fees with patient
Articulate and express patient concerns to dentist
Primary treatment coordinator
Ancillary duties as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
· Individual must be reliable
· Completed dental hygiene certificate program or associates degree in dental hygiene and has current hygienist license for state of North Carolina
· Ability to demonstrate independent thinking and exercise good judgment
· Ability to formulate, affect, interpret, and/or implement operating practices
· Ability to demonstrate teamwork approach to job responsibilities
· Ability to demonstrate initiative, dependability and promptness
· Must perform frequent repetitive work with attention to detail
· Must have the ability to be flexible and accept different work assignments with a positive approach
· Ability to follow instructions and takes responsibility for own actions
· Ability to exercise confidentiality with patients and patient care
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedure manuals and written correspondence
· Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
