Under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist, the Registered Dental Hygienist provides high quality, cost-effective dental care for Hurtt Family Health Clinic patients. As part of the dental team, this role contributes to fostering an environment that enhances patient trust and facilitates a cost-effective approach to patient dental services by focusing on primary and preventative dental care. The Registered Dental Hygienist will be a strong supportive team player with the united goal to improve the patient's dental health outcomes and an active part of a team-based approach to health care designed to address patient care issues and provide quality patient care that provides all staff with an enriching, rewarding and challenging work environment. The Registered Dental Hygienist performs dental measures designed to preserve teeth and prevent the spread of oral disease by performing the duties stated below. What You'll Do: Job Responsibilities & Duties * Completes patient assessments and screenings, including reviewing medical/dental history, screening for oral diseases, and assessing overall oral health * Feels lymph nodes under patient's chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of disease. * Examines gums to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease and perform periodontal charting to monitor gum health. * Completes dental cleanings, including removing plaque, tartar, and stains from teeth and root surfaces using hand, power, and ultrasonic tools. * Applies fluorides and other cavity preventing agents to arrest and prevent dental decay. * Takes and develops X-rays for diagnosis purposes. * Administers and deposits local anesthetic. * Provides patient education, including teaching oral hygiene instruction, providing dietary counseling, and explaining oral health maintenance. * Accurately records patient care, treatment plan, and observations. * Cleans, sterilizes, and organizes dental instruments and treatment rooms adhering to infection control. What You'll Bring: Minimum Qualifications * Education: Associates Degree (or higher) * Training: Successful completion of an accredited Registered Dental Hygienist program * Current infection control training and certificate * Current California Registered Dental Hygienist license * Current CPR/BLS certification Preferred Qualifications * 3-5 years' experience in similar role (community and/or FQHC experience preferred) * Understanding of psychosocial factors involved in administering health service for homeless patients * Principles of patient education * Understand cultural competency principles; fluency in a second language preferred * Ability to Recognize and evaluate situations which call for the immediate attention of a dentist or referral to primary medical care by a physician * A strong desire to serve the under and uninsured patient population of Orange County * Working knowledge of EMR platforms, (eClinical Works preferred)
