Chair side dental assisting when directed by the Officer-In-Charge of the dental clinic.

Patient Workload, Readiness, and Scheduling. Utilizes the Corporate Dental Application to enter patient specific workload and readiness status and also for patient scheduling.
Requirements
Degree: Associate degree or bachelor's Degree depending on the program.
Education: Successful completion of a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA).
Certification: Certified in radiography

Dental Hygienist Core Duties:

The HCW will be subject to guidelines set forth in the Command's quality assurance and risk management instructions. The HCW shall perform administrative duties that include maintaining statistical records of his or her clinical workload, participating in dental education programs, preparing documentation for boards, and participating in clinical staff quality assurance functions at the prerogative of the Commanding Officer.
Inspect head and neck, examine mouth, throat and pharynx for evidence of disease such as oral cancer and/or soft tissue pathosis.
Expose, develop and interpret radiographs to identify tooth structure, periodontal support and other abnormalities such as periodontal bone loss, periapical pathosis, caries, defective restorations, improper tooth contours and contact relationships.
Refer suspected medical conditions, hard and soft tissue abnormalities, caries, periapical and periodontal pathosis and traumatic or suspicious lesions to the dental officer for evaluation.
Obtain blood pressure on patients presenting for treatment.
Perform subgingival scaling, root planning and curettage under local anesthesia administered by a dental officer or the dental hygienist and perform topical fluoride applications. Local anesthesia via injection may be administered by the dental hygienist only if licensed to administer local anesthesia and competency (initial as well as ongoing) requirements for local anesthesia administration have been met.
Plan and adapt oral home care techniques to the specific need of the individual patient.
Monitor, provide technical direction and assist in training dental technicians involved in direct patient care to perform scaling, prophylaxes, polishing procedures, fluoride applications and oral home care instructions. This may include preparing and presenting scheduled lectures to staff.
Maintain a record of patient treatment and number of patients treated.
Record oral condition of teeth and supporting tissues, type of therapy provided and progress notes.
Clean and maintain instruments and ensure their sterility.
Treat acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis.
Assist in Oral Diagnosis Sick call to include exposing and developing periapical, bitewing and panoral radiographs.
Clean and maintain the work area to meet the clinic's standards and may be assigned other duties as directed by the Commanding Officer, consistent with the normal duties of a dental hygienist (not to include mopping, sweeping or taking trash to an industrial dumpster).
Administration of local anesthesia (infiltration and block anesthesia) is not a required qualification; however, if the appropriate background training and credentials exist, clinical privileges may be granted.

Responsibilities of the National Dental Contracting Professional - Medicaid:
+ Proactively source and identify dentists and dental practices for participation in the Medicaid dental network.
+ Develop and implement outreach strategies to attract qualified dental providers, including cold calling, networking, and attending industry events.
+ Present the benefits of participating in the insurance carrier's Medicaid network and address questions or concerns from providers.

+ Collaborate with internal teams (legal, credentialing, provider relations) to support a smooth onboarding experience for new providers.

+ Participate in ongoing training related to Medicaid dental program requirements and provider network management.

Basic Requirement for Dental Assistant: Radiology Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements:
(1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.
(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence, as determined by OPM or the employing agency.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes assist the dentist during dental procedures, maintain supplies for dental treatment room or assisting with x-ray equipment in a dental office. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Successful completion of a full four-year course of study in a dental assistant or dental hygiene program that included at least 24 semester hours of courses in radiation physics; radiation biology; radiation health, safety, and protection; X-ray films and radiographic film quality, radiographic techniques; darkroom and processing techniques; and film mounting.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.
