A typical day will consist of: Prepare patient for dental hygiene by welcoming, soothing, seating and draping patient Answer questions and provide parents, or guardians with information about patients' oral health, treatment, and hygiene Communicate and work alongside dental staff to provide the patient with high level of care Examine patients' mouth for oral health, OHI, and provide any combination of the following treatments as instructed and approved by the dentist: Perform visual exams Perform Prophies Perform 4-6 handed dentistry Assist all dental preventative, restorative and orthodontic procedures Remove excess cement with hand instruments Take x-rays and intraoral photos Apply sealants Arrest dental decay by applying fluorides and other cavity-preventing agents Mix filling compounds Take impressions of teeth Place and remove orthodontic bands Take impressions of space maintainers and orthodontic retainers Prepare teeth for bonding, place elastic ligatures or chains
