This is a part-time (6-12 hours per week) position performing dental care at the Veteran's Home in Bristol, RI on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 8:30am to 2:30pm. Additional hours at other locations may be available. The Dental Hygienist, under the general supervision of a qualified Dentist, assesses patient needs and plans and delivers direct dental care using mobile dental equipment. He / she will utilize established dental hygiene protocol and current standards of practice. Essential Functions Develops and implements individualized dental care plans for patients; performs patient education, discharge planning, and patient / staff teaching under the supervision of a qualified dentist. Documents dental history or chief complaint; records and reports pertinent observations and patient reactions to dental staff, as appropriate; documents lab procedures and ensures follow up on results. Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment of patients. Sets up, breaks down, cleans and sterilizes mobile dental equipment in accordance with established standards. Participate and education initiative for clinical staff and residents Requirements Skills & Experience Experience with adult populations, including the elderly and disabled. The individual in this position must display a strong sense of responsibility and be able to function effectively with little or no supervision. The Dental Hygienist must demonstrate maturity and have the ability to deal effectively with patients, their families, and personnel in a professional manner. This individual must be able to effectively communicate patients' needs to other members of the health care team. Individual must have computer competency and able to navigate emails, Microsoft word and basic dental software. Must be competent in use of a laptop.
