Job Summary

The Wire Bending Technician will bend wires for orthodontic appliances.

Ideal candidates possess excellent eye-hand coordination, attention to detail, ability to recognize the small differences in color and shape, manual dexterity, and interest in sciences.

To be successful in this position, you may have:


  • experience with hand tools, Dremel tools, open-flame soldering, and/or laser welding.
  • worked with prosthetics.

Essential Duties:

  • Bend wires for orthodontic appliances.
  • Document and enter data that corresponds with cases completed.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and electronically using Microsoft Teams and Outlook Email.
  • Work as a team and support team members by engaging and giving feedback to nurture a continuous improvement atmosphere.
  • Cleans and maintains supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Maintains a safe, organized, and efficient work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. There is a high potential for overtime for this position.

Job Description:


To perform and manage daily digital/analog operations of Implant cases throughout the lab. From inbound QC, implant model making to Doctor communications, scanning, contouring and stain and glazing.

Generally, a Senior Technician will fabricate only one type of dental prosthetic appliance (i.e., a Senior Technician who fabricates a denture appliance does not have the knowledge or experience to fabricate a crown, bridge, or cast partial appliance, and vice versa). Furthermore, the fabrication process for each appliance differs and has many steps, and a Senior Technician will generally have knowledge in most or all of the steps in that process but will specialize in only one or two advanced level steps.

Responsibilities:


  • Plan the appropriate setup and operation of various laboratory tools and ensure proper quantities of raw material inventory is on hand for fabrication of appliances.
  • Inbound Quality control of the Implant Impression. Verify that everything is included in the case that is needed for fabrication of the Implant Restoration.
  • Communicate with the Clinician if issues arise with the case.
  • Read prescription forms or specifications from customers and examine dental models or impressions from customers to determine the design of the appliance to be fabricated
  • Scan appliance into lab management database which tracks technicians work performed and amount of time spent fabricating each appliance
  • Create a Soft-tissue model of the customers patients mouth by pouring plaster into the dental model or impression allowing plaster to set.
  • Fabricate, alter or repair the specified appliance according to customers instructions on the prescription form.
  • Test appliance for conformance to specifications and accuracy of occlusion, using articulators and micro-meters.
  • Place appliance on apparatus that mimics bite and movement of patients jaw to evaluate functionality of appliance
  • Scan appliance into lab management database upon completion of designated fabrication tasks assigned to technician and place appliance in designated area for the next step in the fabrication process

Responsibilities

* *Functions as the clean/sterile team member on surgical cases, responsible for aseptic technique, and counts of sponges, needles, miscellaneous items. Possesses extensive knowledge of instrumentation and sutures and surgeon preferences, being constantly aware of and anticipating surgeon's needs.
* *Assists under direct supervision and request of the surgeon in suctioning, maintaining a clean operating field within the oral cavity, capturing radiographs, safely passing instrumentation at the request of the surgeon,, and cutting suture. Does not cut tissue, cauterize, or place or tie suture.
* *Utilizes knowledge of dental anatomy and surgical procedures to anticipate patient and surgeon needs before they arise to keep operative time to a minimum. Observes and reports for correction any breaks in aseptic technique that could cause infection and harm to the patient.
* *Assist the registered nurse with non-sterile, circulating duties, i.e. sending lab work, specimens, , , and obtaining supplies for the sterile team and anesthesia.
* Fills out appropriate lab slips to send patient tests and specimens to the laboratory. Obtains appropriate supplies from Central Processing or operating room stock to give to the operating team for use during surgery. .
* Responsible for covering non-staffed hours in the operating room on an on-call basis. (should this be left to begin planning for incorporations)
* *Coordinates and performs the requisitioning of instruments, supplies, and equipment for dental surgical cases.
* Performs cleaning and disinfection duties in the operating room.
* Assures that all designated supply locations are restocked daily, and expiration dates of sterility are checked.
* Assists in collecting/entering Epic chart data.
* Participates in peer review as appropriate.
* Participates in research activities conducted in the operating rooms or in studies involving surgical patient care.
* Participates in evaluation process of new equipment and supplies for intraoperative patient care.
* Scrubs with new personnel and teaches instrumentation, set-up of the surgical field, aseptic technique, and anticipation of the surgeon's needs. Precepts newer surgical technologists as they begin to perform duties independently.
* *Participates in the educational process and acts as a role model for surgical technologist students affiliating at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
* Reports to Dental Surgery leadership via in service any seminars attended. Helps present specialty surgeries in which (s)he has expertise at operating room care conferences.
* Identifies own learning needs and seeks assistance as needed.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

SReports to: Dental Surgery Supervisor. The Dental Surgical Technologist functions under the direction of the Dental Surgery Supervisor. In addition, they clinically work under the direction of a Dental Resident or Attending Dentist when working in the operating room.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

* High school graduate
* Minimum of 1 year Dental Assistant experience, (Dental Assistant Certification preferred)
* Demonstrates manual dexterity4. Demonstrates versatility and adaptability
* Demonstrates a theoretical and clinical ability to conform to standards of asepsis and infection control
* Possess ability to hear and respond appropriately to surgeon and co-worker requests
* Operating or delivery room experience preferred.
* Demonstrated and documented competency in the scrub role

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

* Must be able to see, hear, speak, read and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation with little or no difficulty.
* Must be able to stand a minimum of 5 hours consecutively, frequently.
* Must be able to independently lift up to 25 lbs., frequently.
* Must be able to move or reposition patients of any weight or size with the assistance of another person(s) and/or equipment.
