Denton Bible Church company history timeline

1979

In 1979, two years after Tommy joined Mel, DBC outgrew the Optimist Gym, where Sunday school space had been the bar, the nursery, and a broom closet.

1980

Bryan was born and raised in Amarillo, TX. He moved to the DFW area in the 1980's when he worked in advertising.

1981

The building’s first service, Easter 1981, was lit by a single bare bulb above a cement floor, but DBC at last had a home rather than a temporary address, the building later known as the Sumrall Center.

1986

By 1986, nine years after Tommy stepped into DBC’s pulpit, Mel stepped out of it.

1988

Mel first saw a global need for these precepts at a 1988 Campus Crusade for Christ meeting in the Philippines.

1990

He began attending DCC in 1990 when the church was founded.

1996

Tim has been a member of Denton Community Church since 1996, when He began living in Denton.

2000

When Mel finally left DBC staff in 2000, at age 75, his emotions were almost a distant echo of those he experienced, decades before, with the loss of his child.

Jon married Trista in 2000 and has four children: Halle (recently married), Christian, Landon, and Finn.

2002

Taylor has attended DCC since 2002.

2006

In the summer of 2006, God used Mel’s long-ago struggle again when a sudden, severe physical setback sent Tommy into a depression.

2014

The Carpenters came to DCC in 2014 as they were attracted to its close resemblance to the church described in the book of Acts - fellowship, worship, small group prayer, and Biblical teaching with applicable lessons to apply throughout the week.
