Denver Public Schools company history timeline

1902

The amendment was created by an election in mid November 1902 and placed into effect by the Governor on December 1, 1902.

1903

1, City and County of Denver, Colorado. It wasn’t until May of 1903 that the first school board election was held for the new School District No.

1911

A new building was built in 1911 to accommodate growing class sizes.

1920

In the 1920’s many schools were built just for juniors high schools such as Skinner and Cole.

1922

Denver East Side was moved to its current location on City Park in 1922, and officially renamed Denver East High School.

1925

Denver East High School as it stands today opened its doors in the fall of 1925.

1926

In 1926, West High School became involved in the City Beautiful project.

1953

In 1953, a fire destroyed the original Manual Training High School at 27th and Franklin.

1954

A new building was constructed at 28th and Gilpin, and in 1954 Manual High School opened its doors.

1955

The first public school building became part of a larger office building, the seven-story Club Building, which was torn down in 1955.

1967

The first volume of a planned trilogy, The Denver School Book observes 1967 was a crucial turning point in the operations of District #1.

1970

In 1970, the United States District Court ordered busing for racial balancing within the schools which meant students spent considerable time riding school busses.
