Derecktor Shipyards company history timeline

1947

Derecktor New York, Derecktor’s corporate headquarters and original shipyard, was established in 1947 and for over 60 years has been building and maintaining sailboats, among them a number of 12 metres including the Cup winning Stars and Stripes, Interpid, Courageous and Valiant.

The company was founded in Mamaroneck, New York in 1947 by Robert E. Derecktor.

1958

Windrose (48' Sparkman & Stephens yawl built in double-planked Honduras mahogany for Jakob Isbrandsen and delivered in 1958)

1964

Winner of Class B in the 1964 Bermuda Race

1967

Figaro IV - Delivered the 51' Robert Derecktor designed wooden sloop which represented the USA in the 1967 Admiral's Cup in Cowes, England

1970

Valiant - Delivered the 12 meter Sparkman and Stephens designed racing sloop to the Cup Syndicate - the last wooden twelve and a contender in 1970 and 74.

1973

Salty Goose - Completed the 54' Derecktor designed IOR racing sloop for Bob Derecktor and Wally Frank in which they represented the USA as a member of the 1973 Admiral's Cup Team in Cowes, England.

1986

Highlander refit (1986 150’ Feadship motor-yacht, designed by John Bannenberg and built by de Vries in Holland for publisher Malcolm Forbes, lengthened to 164' and comprehensively refitted by Derecktor Florida)

1987

Delivered the 12 meter Pedrick/Chance/Nelson racing yacht to Sail America which Dennis Conner sailed to victory in the 1987 America's Cup sailed off Freemantle, Australia

2006

Mamaroneck, New York: The 12 metre Yacht Development Foundation was established in 2006 in Greenwich, CT for the acquisition, restoration, and preservation of historic America’s Cup 12 metre yachts.

2016

In 2016, the partners of Derecktor Robinhood came on board with the goal of continuing the maritime traditions which make Robinhood a truly special place.
