**Coaching a sport during the season makes one ineligible for this position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid coaching license through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners or the ability to obtain it prior to the start of the season.
Strong knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, instruct, and supervise students athletes and a coaching staff.
Ability to work under pressure and remain calm.
Proficient in organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Essential Functions
Year-round responsibilities
Formulate objectives for the coming sport season as it would pertain to player personnel and assistant coaching responsibilities.
Keep abreast of new ideas and techniques by attending clinics and workshops, reading in his/her field and encouraging the assistant coaches to do the same.
Be knowledgeable of rules and regulations concerning his/her sport, and changes which occur.
Be active in professional organizations such as the state coaches association.
Inventory, selection, care and maintenance of equipment.
Seasonal Responsibilities
Before season
Assist Activities Director with proper registration of all athletes at the beginning of the season.
Assist Activities Director in the collection necessary fees.
Assist Activities Director in compiling eligibility lists and other reports.
Be aware of and post an emergency phone and doctors list.
Arrange for a systematic issuance of school equipment.
Make sure all athletes have had physicals.
Explain all regulations of the district.
Clarify to athletes the letter award policy.
Select and instruct team managers on proper care of equipment, facilities, and other duties assigned.
Check arrangements for all bus trips with the Activities Director.
During Season
Assume responsibility for constant care of equipment and facilities being used.
Assume supervisory control over all phases of teams in the program.
Organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis with the idea of developing the athlete's greatest potential.
Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner.
See that facility regulations are understood and enforced.
Emphasize safety precautions and use accepted training and injury procedures.
Conduct oneself and teams in an ethical manner during practice and in contests.
Report outcome of contest to the media.
Instruct players on rules and rule changes, and new ideas and techniques.
Provide to the athletic director for file purposes, a copy of all general correspondence and bulletins to student athletes and parents. This would include handbooks.
Adhere to the rules and regulations of the school district regarding school bus regulations.
Directly supervise or designate a supervisor of all dressing rooms and lock up all facilities at the close of each practice or contest.
Accompany the varsity team to all interscholastic activities away and be the first in attendance at home events.
Designate one or more of assistant coaches to be responsible for the junior varsity team.
End of Season
Arrange for the systematic return of all school equipment and hold the athlete responsible for all equipment not returned.
Arrange for cleaning, storing, and conducting an inventory of all equipment.
Recommend those student athletes who have fulfilled requirements for athletic letters, certificates or special awards.
Evaluate past season.
Recommend additions and/or improvements for the care and maintenance of facilities.
Recommend personnel changes to the Activities Director and principal.
Submit recommendations for schedule for the next year.
Select equipment and make recommendations for purchases of such to the Activities Director.
Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments and submit a copy to the Activities Director.
Other Functions
Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Collaborate with internal and external personnel (e.g. other administrators, district staff, public agencies, community members, etc.) for implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.
Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work without close supervision.
Work well with others, maintaining positive and effective communication with district personnel and work well with others on jobs that require more than one person.
Is respectful and appropriately interacts with staff, students, and visitors.
Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the Ankeny Community School District safety program.

Supervise assigned Community Education program or event.
Actively monitor and interact with participants, staff, volunteers, and spectators.
Know, deliver, and enforce program or event rules or procedures to ensure a safe and quality experience.
Proactively problem-solve any issues that arise during the program or event.
Enforce rules and regulations of Johnston Community Education and Johnston Community School District in order to maintain discipline and ensure safety.
Serve as the point of contact and Community Education representative at the program or event site.
Employ functional knowledge of emergency and security procedures.
Monitor the condition and security of facility, space and equipment used for programs and events. Return space and equipment to desired condition as directed by supervisor.
Communicate with your direct supervisor. Report any issues or concerns immediately.
Know the location of cleaning supplies and employ as needed.
Attend program or event specific trainings as directed by supervisor.
Respond to any incidents that arise with care. Complete necessary documentation.
Manage secure collection and record keeping of participant fees when necessary.

TITLE:
Payroll & Benefits Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Payroll & Benefits Specialist is responsible for payroll processing, reporting and compliance for over 350 staff members of the Boone Community School District. This position ensures that all district employees are compensated accurately and on time in accordance with district policies, negotiated agreements, and federal and state regulations. This is an hourly, full-time, 12 month position offering a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Associates degree in Accounting, Business or Finance. Bachelors degree preferred.
2. Two years of recent payroll and benefits experience in an organization of comparable size. Experience with payroll processing in an educational organization preferred.
3. Effective oral and written communication skills.
4. High degree of efficiency, accuracy and accountability.
5. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
6. Proficient computer skills required, particularly in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
7. Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
8. Capacity to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with accuracy and attention to detail.
9. Ability to work professionally with staff, administrators and auditors.
10. Must pass background checks and comply with state and district requirements.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Payroll & Benefits
Prepare and analyze monthly payroll for all district employees, including exempt and non-exempt staff.
Manage workflow to ensure payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
Maintain the District's time management system.
Ensure compliance with IRS regulations, IPERS regulations, Section 125 plan regulations, health insurance regulations, etc.
Enforce established payroll-related policies, procedures and regulations.
Timely and accurately process tax payments, garnishments, child support and other deductions as required.
Process direct deposit ACH files and submissions to financial institutions. Monitor and reconcile positive pay exceptions with the district's bank.
Prepare and submit quarterly 941 tax returns and other federal and state reports.
Perform calendar year-end functions, including W-2 processing and reconciliation.
Administer health, dental, LTD and life insurance benefits.
Assist with administration of worker's compensation insurance.
Assist with the District's annual financial audit.
Serves as a resource person for the staff on the District's employee benefit programs.
Identify and report potential payroll discrepancies, compliance issues or over-expenditures.
Regular and reliable in person attendance is an essential function of this position.
Maintains professional growth through organization membership, workshops and/or related professional learning.
Assist Director of Business Services in carrying out various business office functions as may be necessary.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve month hourly position. Regular office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Full-time benefits available.

EVALUATION:
Performance of this job to be evaluated annually by the District Director of Business Services.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Inspect facilities for cleanliness and safety, take action as necessary
Complete all necessary preventative and regular maintenance, counts, pool checks as assigned
Ensure that safety equipment is present and at each guard station
Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and administer basic first aid when necessary to stabilize victim until emergency medical service can respond
Attend all assigned meetings and in-services
Perform other such duties and function as are necessary or incidental to the proper performance of this position
