The RegisteredNurse (RN) in the Emergency Room (ER) provides critical care to patients in urgent or emergent conditions. The RN in the ER works in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, delivering immediate care to patients suffering from injuries, illnesses, or trauma. They assess, triage, and treat patients in collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals, ensuring the best outcomes in a dynamic setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Triage and Patient Assessment:
Perform initial assessments of patients presenting in the ER, including triaging based on the severity of their condition.
Evaluate patient history, conduct physical assessments, and identify urgent health issues to prioritize care.
Collect patient vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration) and other relevant data to determine immediate care needs.
Emergency Care and Treatment:
Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as prescribed, including intravenous (IV) fluids, antibiotics, pain management, and other emergency medications.
Perform wound care, splinting, suturing, and other interventions as needed for trauma or injury patients.
Provide emergency life-saving interventions, including CPR, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and trauma care.
Assist in resuscitation efforts, including managing ventilators, intubation, and defibrillation when necessary.
Collaboration with Medical Team:
Work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other team members to develop and implement patient care plans.
Assist with diagnostic testing, such as lab work, imaging (X-rays, CT scans), and electrocardiograms (ECGs), based on patient needs.
Communicate clearly and efficiently with the healthcare team, updating them on changes in patient status and discussing care options.
Monitoring and Documentation:
Continuously monitor patients' conditions, noting changes in vital signs, mental status, and symptoms.
Document all patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and hospital standards for patient care and documentation.
Patient and Family Communication:
Provide clear explanations to patients and their families about diagnoses, procedures, and treatment plans.
Offer emotional support to patients and families experiencing stress or anxiety due to medical emergencies.
Advocate for patients' needs and coordinate care with other departments to ensure timely interventions.
Infection Control and Safety:
Follow strict infection control protocols, including appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
Ensure the ER environment remains safe and sterile for both patients and staff.
Respond to potential biohazardous situations with proper precautions and protocols.
Crisis Management:
Handle a wide range of patient emergencies, from minor injuries to life-threatening conditions, using critical thinking and rapid decision-making skills.
Manage high-stress situations effectively, staying calm while providing life-saving interventions.
Prioritize care based on patient acuity and available resources, ensuring efficient use of ER staff and equipment.
Patient Discharge and Follow-Up:
Provide discharge instructions and explain the next steps in care, including medication instructions, follow-up appointments, or referrals.
Educate patients on preventive measures and care after discharge, especially in cases of trauma or chronic conditions.
Teamwork and Mentorship:
Collaborate with emergency room staff, including physicians, nurses, support staff, and paramedics, to ensure coordinated patient care.
Act as a mentor or preceptor for new nurses, students, and less experienced staff members, providing guidance and support in emergency care procedures.

As a Level I trauma center with 51 Operating Rooms in seven locations, we perform advanced surgeries every day using the latest technology. The unit operates 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. We are a multiple-organ transplant center where you can be part of a team performing heart, liver, kidney, pancreas and heart-lung transplants. We have the highest cardiac transplant patients in the country. We also perform surgery using robotics in Urology, Cardiac, Ear, Nose and Throat, and General Surgery.
As a RegisteredNurse for the Operating Room:
+ Assume responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care within this specialty patient population.
+ Provide and document direct and indirect patient care services that ensure the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients.
+ Provide patient education on disease prevention and restorative measures.
+ Provide administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement the treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care.
+ Perform skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy and the initiation of peripheral venous access.
+ Observe and assess signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications/treatments, general behavior, and/or general physical condition to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics and initiate emergency procedures when indicated.
+ Plan and implement care based on observations, implementing appropriate reporting, referrals and care in accordance with standardized procedures while providing care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds.

The Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (WOCN) is an RN who is an expert clinical practitioner responsible for providing consultation, education and client management expertise for specific clinical areas. The WOCNs at Cedars-Sinai provide evidence based, hands-on care to patients dealing with chronic wounds, ostomy or incontinence issues to improve their outcomes and help them return to their normal lives. On an An Average Day you Will:
(Includes, but not limited to)
Complete an initial, comprehensive and ongoing comprehensive assessment of patient and family to determine hospice needs
Provide a complete physical assessment and history of current and previous illness(es)
Provide professional nursing care by utilizing all elements of the nursing process
Assess and evaluate patient's status by:
Writing and initiating plan of care
Regularly re-evaluating patient and family/caregiver needs
Participating in revising the plan of care, as necessary
Initiate the plan of care and make necessary revisions as patient status and needs change
Use health assessment data to determine nursing diagnosis
Develop a care plan that establishes goals, based on nursing diagnosis
Include the patient and the family in the planning process
Record pain/symptom management and changes/outcomes as appropriate
Communicate with the physician regarding the patient's needs and report changes in the patient's condition; obtain/receive physicians' orders, as required
Teach the patient and family/caregiver self-care techniques, as appropriate
Work in concert with the interdisciplinary group
All other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Must have at least one (1) year of acute care experience in an institutional setting
One (1) year of experience in home care preferred
Must have a current licensure in the state
Must understand the philosophy of hospice concept and understand needs of the terminally ill
Must be flexible in work hours
Must demonstrate nursing skills per competency checklist
Must demonstrate a willingness to maintain comprehensive working knowledge regarding information systems and applicable software programs
Ability to travel throughout the Bristol Hospice Service Area

Licensed Vocational Nurse

Work as a member of a strong team to provide nursing care for the comfort and wellbeing of patients. Performs the functions and procedures as identified by the physician. Utilizes the Nursing Process (Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation), in the delivery of professional nursing care to the clinic population in accordance with Allergy Partners policies and procedures. Documents assessment, care delivery, patient condition, reaction and progress. Works as a liaison between providers and patients. Provides and reinforces patient and family teaching/counseling within scope of practice. Provides patient education, especially in regard to pharmaceuticals and supports the business goals of the practice.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Clinical Support
Greets patient and escorts them from the waiting room to exam rooms; prepares patients for exam or treatment; takes vital signs.
Provides assistance to physician when requested.
Performs Spirometry and other breathing tests as ordered.
Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.
Performs patient education when appropriate.
Completes appropriate documentation in patients medical record.
Facilitates prescriptions for patients as ordered by physician or nurse practitioner.
Performs allergy prick testing and/or intradermal testing as ordered by physician.
Administers allergy injections to shot patients as set forth on physician approved schedule.
Monitors patients medical status for possible adverse reaction following receipt of allergy injection.
Maintains emergency equipment, including oxygen, crash cart and supplies, suction, etc.
As necessary: appropriately assesses/evaluates patient problems over the phone, utilizing approved telephone triage protocol to determine the level of care the caller needs.
Demonstrates good clinical judgment, critical thinking skills, assessment skills, careful listening and good communication skills. Documents calls thoroughly and closes the loop between self, patient and provider in a timely manner.
Scribe for providers as requested/required by role within practice.
Follows standardized assisted documentation workflows as outlined in scribe policies.
Follows up to obtain referrals and insurance authorization as requested and needed.
Ability to organize requirements for biologics whether via Specialty Pharmacy or Buy and Bill.
This includes proper completion of all necessary paper work for ordering, billing, and reimbursement of biologics
Maintains clinical supply stock and medication samples.
Collaborates with patients, colleagues and interdisciplinary team members to achieve desired outcomes.
Other
Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice.
Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions.
Attends CPR, OSHA, HIPAA, and Compliance training programs as required.
Attends all regular meetings.
Participates in professional development activities
Performs all other tasks and projects assigned by the Practice Manager.
Completes all assigned AP training (such as CPR, OSHA, HIPAA, Compliance, Information Security, others) within designated timeframes.
Complies with Allergy Partners and respective hub/department policies and reports incidents of policy violations to a Supervisor/Manager/Director, Department of Compliance & Privacy or via the AP EthicsPoint hotline.
Restrictions:
Each RN, LPN, or LVN will work within their scope of practice as outlined by their state board of nursing. The following restrictions apply for all RNs, LPNs/LVNs and may not:
Dispense medications without a prescription
Administer medications without a doctor's order
Provide any type of patient care unless provider is on site
Diagnose patients
Typical Physical Demands:
Position requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand
coordination. Position involves standing and walking. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and
carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. Normal visual acuity and hearing are required. Employee will
work under stressful conditions, and be exposed to bodily fluids on a regular basis.
Typical Working Condition:
Employee will have potential exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, needle sticks and
other conditions common to a clinic environment.
COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Actual compensation may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
High School Degree or GED required
Every LPN, LVN or RN will hold a current, unencumbered license to practice in the state employed or compact state.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum one year of work experience in a clinical setting
Understanding of OSHA guidelines for ambulatory practices
Experience communicating and interacting with physicians
Analytical ability strongly preferred Ability to document in the electronic Medical Record, working knowledge of practice management and word processing software
