Position Summary:
This person will be responsible for providing electrical and mechanical support in response to operational changes resulting from the malfunction, breakdown, relocation, replacement or other modifications of existing and new mechanical systems and/or equipment.
Essential Duties, Functions, and responsibilities:
Analyze and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems in facility production equipment, identifying root causes and engineering solutions to prevent recurrence.
Design and implement improvements to electrical control systems to optimize production efficiency and reduce downtime.
Develop and oversee preventive programs based on engineering analysis to enhance overall equipment performance.
Ensure all electrical systems and components comply with relevant safety regulations and electrical codes.
Read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation to guide system diagnostics and upgrades.
Experienced in industrial automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and related control technologies. Able to configure, program, and troubleshoot automation equipment.
Familiarity with platforms like Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar is preferred.
Lead technical projects, including the installation and commissioning of new equipment and system upgrades.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production and quality assurance, to maintain compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices and product standards.
Ensure compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures when bypassing safety guards or servicing equipment, including isolating electrical and pneumatic energy sources to maintain a safe work environment.
Provide technical training and guidance to maintenance staff and production operators on electrical systems and best practices.
Maintain up-to-date documentation on electrical systems, modifications, and activities for compliance and continuous improvement efforts.

Position Summary
The Mechanical Designer will work as a key contributor on our Engineering team to develop and maintain manufacturing drawings, equipment layouts, assemblies, and installation details for our poultry chiller systems and associated equipment. This role is both office and field oriented. The candidate will spend most of their time developing 3D mechanical models and drawings, while also participating in site visits for field measurements, equipment documentation, and occasional 3D LiDAR scanning.
This is a strong role for someone who enjoys hands-on, real-world engineering and the technical details required to build and install equipment that works right the first time.
Key Responsibilities
Create and maintain 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings using Autodesk Inventor (Similar experience, e.g. SolidWorks, is acceptable with willingness to transition).
Develop complete mechanical drawing packages including assemblies, detailed part prints, weldment drawings, and bill of materials (BOMs).
Work directly with shop personnel (welders, fabricators, machinists) to verify manufacturability, ease of fabrication, and clarity of documentation.
Conduct field investigations at poultry processing facilities to gather dimensions, document existing equipment, and assess installation constraints.
Assist with or perform 3D LiDAR scanning of existing equipment and environments (experience preferred, but training available).

Will work with various internal Caterpillar clients to understand controller/component requirements, help design PCB [Printed Circuit Board] layouts, as well as perform digital/analog/power circuit analysis and testing. Other duties may include working with suppliers, testing the controllers/components in various environments, ensuring that FMEAs [Failure Mode and Effects Analysis] are conducted and documented to meet stringent Caterpillar quality requirements.
+ **Embedded Software Development:** Develop embedded software in C, C#, and/or C++ for various electronic control modules. Some examples of embedded software development applications include Datalink communications, inputs and outputs (sensors and actuators), speed calculation, injection/spark timing, memory management, CPU optimization, multi-core design and implementation, autonomy algorithms for perception, localization, planning, etc. In addition, some areas of work include developing scripts in Python/Visual Basic for automation.
+ **Software Validation/Verification for Electronic Systems:** Verify functionality of a feature or control system algorithm on a HIL [Hardware in the Loop] simulator bench or a SIL [Software in the Loop] system. Understand the requirements of the feature and/or the schematics of the controller/control system, verify functionality and debug/report anomalies to the development team, and help validate fixes.
+ **Engineering Data Analytics:** Ability to write and understand computer code, Python, analytics/data science experience, exposure to machine learning concepts/tools, engineering and statistics fundamentals.
+ **Process Engineering:** Apply mechanical, manufacturing, systems and/or industrial engineering knowledge to analyze and optimize an engineering process or processes. Will have the opportunity to leverage problem-solving and communication skills.

+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher (unrounded)
+ Willing to relocate and travel as needed
