**What You Will Do:**
This Repair Design Engineer (RDE) position is with the Aftermarket and Sustainment Engineering (ASE) Military Repair Group. The RDE is responsible for the development of repairs for military engines. This includes development of the repair concept, writing of the repair, obtaining approvals, and coordination with the end user. + Create technical documents that provide engineering requirements for repairs.

Collaborate with a talented team of design, CAE, and system engineers to create a highly integrated drive unit assembly with electric traction motor, geartrain, cooling and power electronics. The position oversees design and release of components and must have familiarity with current eDrive systems to maintain a level of competitiveness in target setting.
Responsibilities (80s of the Position)
Create conceptual designs, perform electromechanical analyses, develop detailed designs, lead cross functional teams, support product prototype and pilot build fabrication and testing.
Select and collaborate directly with drive unit component suppliers, setting requirements and quality standards.
Drive the design and development of eMotors for use in electric vehicle powertrains from concept through fabrication.
Support high-performance motors and resolvers through purposeful design, driving continuous improvement and quality output.
Define and drive research using advanced experience and understanding of motors and resolvers to recommend product improvements and innovative motor architectures
Use simulation background to investigate product anomalies and optimize design of new products
Support the definition of test conditions, pass/fail criteria for sub-systems, and completed system.
Correlate life testing to life predictions, refining analysis/models collaborating with CAE engineers.
Post process test results, identify root-cause of potential issues and make design recommendations to meet the highest level of durability, efficiency and performance for Canoo vehicles.
Support vehicle testing to correlate to bench/dyno testing.
Required Experience
Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering or similar.
3 years of Automotive powertrain development and validation experience, including rotating electric machine, NVH, and power electronic disciplines.
First-hand experience on development and validation of electric drive unit components and assemblies from prototype into production scenarios.
Must have design and test experience with electric motors (IPM and induction traction motors), mechanisms, and electromagnetic design/analysis software (JMAG/COMSOL/MotorCAD/Etc)
Strong understanding of mechanical and thermal physics.
Strong understanding of electric motors and motor test methodology
Experience of Test-Simulation correlation in the component / sub-system / models.
Strong communication skills and experience with presenting results and recommendations to multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Experience
Master's Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering
5 years of Automotive powertrain development and validation experience, including rotating electric machine, NVH, and power electronic disciplines.
Experience in electric vehicle powertrains, including various traction motor and transmission architectures.

Education and Experience
* A Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, technology, or physical science discipline and 5-10 years of proven manufacturing engineering experience driving process integration and process improvement.
* Must have proven experience leading and improving a manufacturing process working both independently and in teams. Mus have practical knowledge of engineering mechanics, physics, hydraulics, electronics, pneumatics, machine design/operation, and computer software.
* A thorough understanding of the operational theory and principles of operation of automatic transmissions and internal combustion engines.
* 5+ years of experience with assembly of complex mechanical assemblies required.
* High level of analytical ability required, where problems are unusual and difficult.
* 5+ years of Lean manufacturing operational theory, principles and tools is required.
* 5+ years of experience prioritizing and assigning tasks, and accurately estimate the time and costs required for project completion.
* Experience in creating, developing, adapting, and communicating tool design concepts based on input from internal and external customers using advanced design tools (ACAD) and techniques a plus.
Language Skills
* The ability to read and interpret manufacturing documents/drawings/prints/details such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, machine drawings, wiring/electrical schematics, and repair manuals is required.
* Must write detailed reports with supporting documentation and data.
* Superior communication and escalation skills and habits are critical to the manufacturing engineering role; including customers, team member, and leadership communication.
Computer Skills
* Must be proficient in the operation of computers, word processing, spreadsheet and database software and design software applications.
* Must be able to demonstrate the ability to develop written communication, spreadsheets, charts and graphs.
Mathematical Skills
* Superior mathematical problem solving is paramount to the position. The ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide, in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals is a requirement.
* Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and possess the skills to develop and interpret graphs.
* Must utilize, comprehend and understanding statistical methods and the interpretation of statistical results.
Reasoning

Develop tools, implement designs or integrate machinery, equipment or computer technologies to ensure effective manufacturing processes. Refine product designs to increase producibility and decrease costs
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; others may be assigned:
· Improve work methods and tooling
· Report any safety problems to management
· Follow all environmental, health and safety policies
· Keep work area clean and orderly

· Evaluate self work to ensure compliance with work instructions and standards
· Develop Manufacturing Process such as APS and work instructions.
· Design and purchase Production Tooling for test fixtures, assembly fixtures to reduce labor and ensure quality for the required tooling to assemble parts effectively.
· Resolve production issues first to build evaluations and production Line Issues.
· Train new hires to the updates on APS and Work Instructions.
· Measure parts to ensure proper fits are obtained and develop new Motor Assembly Forms.
· Resolve issues with product that occurs during the assembly or testing process.
· Create and maintain written process instructions on APS, CAPPS and other instructional documents.
· Analyze data gathered and develop solutions or alternative methods of proceeding.
· Purchase tooling for production areas.
· Evaluate processes and assemblies and identify areas where improvements can be made.
· Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce cost using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts..
· Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.

· Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
· Train production personnel in new or existing methods.
· Design, install, or troubleshoot manufacturing equipment.

· Wearing the proper safety equipment
