Design cost-effective, competitive mechanical and electromechanical products for a wide ranging product line, used primarily in the commercial and military aerospace industry. This includes creating improvements to existing products and developing new products; all by utilizing a broad array of analytical, design, and hardware skills. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Manages multiple projects effectively. Project management includes: Concept-to-production, product support during production, risk reduction and cost reduction initiatives. Interprets customer specifications into design features and constraints. Presents design ideas based on factors such as design-function relationships, serviceability, manufacturability and customer specifications. Develops design models using CAD Software (especially SolidWorks). Prepares working drawings to MNAI/industry drawing standards, and layouts from CAD models and design specifications. Communicates effectively with customers, suppliers and internal personnel. Prepares engineering analysis of projects, to include stress calculations, tolerance stack-ups, etc. Prepares technical documents such as technical proposals, stress reports, test procedures, test reports, and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), etc. Reviews the designs for compliance with applicable codes, adopted engineering standards, and good engineering practices. Prepares appropriate presentations, conducts and leads design review meetings that include personnel from different areas, such as Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, Marketing, and others. Provides project management and engineering support including design, specification review, trouble-shooting. Successfully creates, manages and meets tight schedules/deadlines. Communicates and works with in-house machine shop, Purchasing, Planning, Marketing, Operations personnel, Assembly, Quality and suppliers on new designs, design improvements/cost reduction, and current product issues. Performs and documents product development, qualification testing (structural and environmental) and maturity testing on new and legacy designs. Identifies, communicates, and improves design processes with other personnel; presents design to client and/or Product Team for approval and/or modifications. Provides production, operational, and sales support as needed. Summary/Objective The Mechanical Drafter is responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings for transformer components, tooling, and assemblies. This role ensures compliance with industry standards, supports manufacturing and assembly through precise documentation, and assists with engineering change management. The Mechanical Drafter collaborates with engineering, quality, and production teams to deliver clear and consistent technical drawings that support VanTran's product quality and manufacturing efficiency. Essential Functions Daily On-Site Attendance. Prepare 2D and 3D CAD drawings using SolidWorks. Generate detailed views of transformer components such as -- Transformer tanks and enclosures -- Cooling systems (radiators, fans) -- Core and coil assemblies (in coordination with electrical designers) -- Bushings and terminals -- Mounting and lifting structures Ensure materials are correctly specified for manufacturing. Upload drawings and files to NetSuite. Ensure all drawings meet relevant industry standards such as IEEE C57, ANSI, and NEMA. Maintain consistent drawing practices and tolerancing standards. Provide technical support to manufacturing, assembly, and quality teams. Generate fabrication and assembly drawings to guide the shop floor. Assist in inspections of tanks, cabinets, and steel products as needed. Support nonconformance investigations for tanks, cabinets, and steel products. Modify existing drawings and documentation to reflect design changes or improvements. Maintain up-to-date and timely drawing revisions. Typical Responsibilities: A successful candidate will work harmoniously within a team on residential, commercial, and/or federal land development projects. The responsibilities will include both design and management of the project and team staff. You will assist the Project Manager with design team oversight, organize weekly team status meetings, report project status to Project Manager among other responsibilities. The position will take project “ownership” for selected projects as determined by the project manager and ensure the project meets and exceed client expectations by ensuring accurate, complete, and timely communication and work product. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in civil engineering (required) 3 years of progressive experience in civil engineering design including: water and wastewater infrastructure, roadway design for City and County projects, civil site design, and drainage. Ability to organize a team to coordinate assignments. Familiarity with local county and municipal design requirements and permitting. Ability to focus on the details of a project while understanding the big picture from the project team perspective. Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently while maintaining strong attention to detail with limited supervision. Proficiency with Hydrologic & Hydraulic modeling software such as: HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HY-8, etc. Proficiency in Technical writing applied to reports, correspondence, proposals, etc. Efficiently utilize time in executing assigned tasks accurately, on schedule, and within budget. Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D (preferred). Familiarity with TxDOT design requirements (preferred). Effectively interact with clients, vendors, and staff at all levels. Excellent communication, organization, and customer service are essential.
