A day in the life You are managing quality of implementation through multiple projects that can vary in scope, complexity and duration. Daily tasks may comprise of site coordination with operations teams and contractors on project execution activities or changes; deep diving project progress, schedule and resources, while identifying barriers, creating solutions and driving resolutions. Summary/Objective The Mechanical Drafter is responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings for transformer components, tooling, and assemblies. This role ensures compliance with industry standards, supports manufacturing and assembly through precise documentation, and assists with engineering change management. The Mechanical Drafter collaborates with engineering, quality, and production teams to deliver clear and consistent technical drawings that support VanTran's product quality and manufacturing efficiency. Essential Functions Daily On-Site Attendance. Prepare 2D and 3D CAD drawings using SolidWorks. Generate detailed views of transformer components such as -- Transformer tanks and enclosures -- Cooling systems (radiators, fans) -- Core and coil assemblies (in coordination with electrical designers) -- Bushings and terminals -- Mounting and lifting structures Ensure materials are correctly specified for manufacturing. Conduct engineering and economic analysis to support project decisions and budgets. Investigate new technologies and apply best practices in substation engineering. Support & Collaborate: Provide technical expertise across departments such as ROW, Regulatory, Project Management, and Planning. Assist construction crews, suppliers, and inspectors to resolve field or design issues. Perform site visits, inspections, and testing of substations. Provide effective direction to others in a team-based environment Plan, direct and coordinate the activities of cross-functional teams. What We're Looking For Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university required. Other ABET-accredited engineering degrees with specialized substation design experience may be considered. Six years of experience as an Engineer with Texas Registration as a Professional Engineer Skills & Traits: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Commitment to safety, integrity, and continuous improvement. Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external stakeholders. Eagerness to learn and apply knowledge in high-voltage substation applications.
