This Opportunity
WSP is seeking an Overhead Transmission Line Design Intern - Summer 2026 to work out of our Freeport, Maine office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program.
WSP USA hosts hundreds of internships across the United States to gain hands-on, meaningful work experience to enhance their education and professional aptitude. Our interns gain exposure to real projects while working side by side with senior staff. This internship is anticipated to take place during the Summer 2026 semester. The program is anticipated to take place from May 18, 2026 through August 7, 2026. The individual start date is flexible.
Your Impact
Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
Learn basic principles of Overhead Transmission Line Engineering.
Assist with project data acquisition, field work when applicable, and preliminary/conceptual design activities.
Support preparation of final design plans, construction documents, and cost estimates.
Gain valuable experience in detailed line modeling, structure and wire design and analysis, and foundation design.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Actively enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later.
Must be 18 or older.
Demonstrated interest in civil engineering, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects.
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Ensures that color samples are developed in accordance with customer specifications at the lowest possible cost, while meeting company standards for quality and performance. This position operates with a high degree of autonomy and requires little to no day-to-day direction.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
* Develops new formulas for color samples which meet customer business and product needs.
* Utilizes automated systems and technology (SAP, PC, Color Computer, etc.) to develop, diagnose and/or improve processes and resolve customer issues.

What you can expect to be doing:
Responsibilities
Assist with project coordinator activities
Function in a team environment with managers, project coordinator, technicians, clients, and other stakeholders
Participate in peer-review processes for all drawings
Maintain an in-depth knowledge of industry-related standards relating to BIM/CAD project delivery, with an emphasis on MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) content.

What you will need to succeed:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in virtual modeling in the construction industry. Architectural, mechanical, and construction engineering education and/or ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) documents to transform to 2-D and 3-D modeling using current Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD MEP or similar programs. This is an MEP-heavy position
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Takes part in providing local technical design and CADD support on projects to produce designs and specifications to be used for planning, transportation, infrastructure, and technical services business lines. Generates accurate and concise design phase deliverables including reports, technical memoranda, design manuals, plans and profiles, models, sections, details, specifications, and material lists.
