We have been operating in North America since 2002, delivering large-scale projects such as the groundbreaking Port Miami Tunnel. We currently have operations in Rhodes Island, Washington DC and Montana. Our expertise extends throughout underground works, river and maritime works, linear projects, signature bridges, industrial civil engineering, buildings and property development.
The Potomac River Tunnel project is a landmark initiative under the Clean Rivers Project. The project aims to construct a nearly 5.5 miles tunnel beneath the Potomac River with 2 different TBM, serving as a critical infrastructure element to control combined sewer overflows. This will significantly enhance the water quality of the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers and Rock Creek while bolstering the sewer system's capacity.
Job Summary:
The Design and Permits Coordinator will play a key role in managing the interface between design, construction, and regulatory agencies for the Potomac River Tunnel Project. This position involves coordinating with design consultants, construction teams, and state and federal agencies to ensure timely design approvals and grant of permits, efficient communication, and seamless integration of design and permits conditions during works execution.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate with state, local, and federal agencies to obtain necessary approvals for design submittals and drawings.
Facilitate communication between the design team and construction team to ensure design intent aligns with field requirements and constructability (methodologies, plant)
Review design drawings and specifications to verify they meet project goals, agency requirements, and cost-effective construction methods.
Support the preparation and tracking of design submittals, RFIs, and design changes.
Collaborate with designers to optimize design efficiency while maintaining compliance with project standards and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate with local government bodies and regulatory entities on design-related issues impacting construction activities and design changes during construction
Maintain organized records of design correspondence, approvals, and status tracking
Support design meetings, technical workshops, and progress reporting
Report progress at regular intervals and report on permits status during project management meetings
Skills & Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field
Around 1 year of relevant experience preferably on large-scale infrastructure projects
Understanding of construction methodologies, project delivery methods, and design standards.
Understanding of relevant codes, standards, and regulations governing construction and design.
Strong organizational skills

About FDD's Internship Program
Based in downtown Washington, D.C., the Foundation for Defense of Democracies has a number of internship opportunities available. All FDD interns will have the opportunity to participate in a twice-monthly speaker series, which brings high-level DC officials and senior staff members to engage with interns in an intimate setting. FDD interns will be encouraged to build on their academic skills by working closely with senior staff. FDD is also happy to assist students who wish to earn academic credit for this internship. The Digital & Design Team
The Digital & Design Team is seeking a full-time or part-time intern to assist with digital content, graphic design, and social media. Throughout your internship, you will gain meaningful professional experience at a partner organization and participate in professional development built around a 2-day, in-person summit hosted by Stand Together Fellowships at Stand Together's Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, supported by virtual programming that takes place every other Thursday between 1- 3:30 pm ET. Interns will receive either a $7,500 or $5,500 stipend from Stand Together Fellowships depending on whether they are participating full-time (40 hours/week) or part-time (24 hours/week).
The programming provided by Stand Together Fellowships focuses on three objectives:

The organization was founded shortly after 9/11 by a group of visionary philanthropists and policymakers to engage in the worldwide war of ideas and to support the defense of democratic societies under assault by terrorism and militant Islamism. FDD combines policy research, investigative journalism, strategic communications, and democracy and counterterrorism education.
About FDD's Internship Program
Based in downtown Washington, D.C., the Foundation for Defense of Democracies has a number of internship opportunities available. All FDD interns will have the opportunity to participate in a twice-monthly speaker series, which brings high-level DC officials and senior staff members to engage with interns in an intimate setting. FDD interns will be encouraged to build on their academic skills by working closely with senior staff. FDD is also happy to assist students who wish to earn academic credit for this internship. All internships are unpaid.
