Senior Android Software Engineer
Hiya 4.0
Developer job in Seattle, WA
About Us
At Hiya, we're revolutionizing voice communication. Our mission is to modernize voice with intelligence for security and productivity
Since 2015, when we introduced the first mobile caller ID and spam-blocking apps, we've been at the forefront of voice intelligence innovation. In 2016, we partnered with Samsung and AT&T to launch Hiya Protect, the first network-based spam-blocking solution. In 2019, we introduced Hiya Connect, a branded call SaaS platform that helps businesses reach more customers by phone.
Today, our Voice Intelligence Platform supports over 500 million users globally. By using adaptive AI and audio intelligence, it delivers smarter, safer, and more productive voice calls across networks, apps, and devices. Our network & solution partners have grown to include British Telecom, EE, Virgin Media O2, Ericsson, Rogers, Bell Canada, MasMovil, Telenor, FICO, Twilio, and more.
About the Position
At Hiya, the Hiya AI Phone team is on a mission to build the most intelligent, trustworthy, and delightful call experience. We're reimagining what a phone app can do-from identifying who's calling and if their voice is real to helping users decide which calls to answer-all powered by real-time AI and deep telephony integrations.
As a Senior Android Engineer, you'll be a hands‑on contributor driving the design, development, and deployment of our Android application and accompanying SDKs. The Hiya AI Phone is distributed directly to consumers via the Play Store. You'll join a collaborative and experienced team of mobile developers working at the intersection of real‑time voice, machine learning, and mobile UX-building at a scale few consumer apps ever reach. If you're passionate about crafting elegant, high‑performance Android experiences and want to ship impactful software that changes how people connect, we want to meet you.
The Hiya AI Phone team at Hiya plays a critical role in the distribution of Hiya software both directly to consumers via our apps and for SDKs which are integrated into OEM native dialer apps. The team is responsible for our consumer‑facing software which provides a call experience which rivals that of Pixel, Samsung, and iOS dialers. This role ensures that Hiya's core technology is made available to our ever growing user base quickly and effectively to build and deliver trust in phone calls. Join the team and work alongside experienced mobile developers as we continue to build and ship software at a scale made possible by our partners.
We're excited about working with you because you are the type of person who's unsatisfied with superficial explanations and dives deep to understand the root cause of issues. You dig into projects at a high level of detail and thread the needle of customer needs and technical excellence.
What You'll Do
Design, architect, and build software (both APKs and AARs) for Android in Kotlin and Java.
Utilize modern mobile development paradigms to create software for consumption by end‑users and other developers.
Collaborate with different teams such as product management, UI/UX, and backend engineering teams to define, design, and ship new features.
Contribute across a variety of mobile projects via code‑reviews, architecture discussions, and cross‑team collaboration.
Ensure the software we ship is implemented with performance, quality, and responsiveness in mind.
Work with OEM partners (smartphone manufacturers) to integrate our software at the OS level.
Provide behind‑the‑scenes solutions (software, documentation, guides) for external software engineers.
Add to our roadmap by participating in product ideation, planning, and experimentation.
You will have a fast start if you have experience:
Working with Kotlin, RxJava, Retrofit and other modern Android development frameworks (such as LiveData, Room, Jetpack Compose)
Utilizing both Unit and Instrumentation tests as a part of your software engineering practice
Working in/with the telecommunication industry.
Working with the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) codebase
Building, documenting, and integrating 3rd party Android SDKs
The requirements listed in the job descriptions are guidelines. You don't have to satisfy every requirement or meet every qualification listed. If your skills are transferable we would still love to hear from you.
