This position plays an important role in providing students with academic support and coaching they need in order to be successful in medical school. Learning Specialists work with students in all four years of the medical school curriculum. The Learning Specialistdevelops, executes, and monitors academic success programs and initiatives for KansasCOM medical students through individualized or group instruction. Primary Responsibilities:

Works closely with members of the medical education team to help support curricular innovation.

Maintain and provide oversight of a tutoring program for student in years one and two of the curriculum; evaluate existing program; implement and evaluate new initiatives to support student learning through testing.
Help design and implement academic support plans for students who are deficient in knowledge or skills.
Continue to review student promotion and retention data among other learning outcomes and revise learning assistance program and strategies to achieve optimal outcome.
Develop and maintain policy and procedure manual for KansasCOM academic counseling activities. Ensure that all policies and procedures are consistent with FERPA and Title IX requirements.
Position Requirements:
Demonstrated success in providing academic counseling in the following areas: study skills, learning challenges, test taking strategies, time management, board exam planning, study groups, note taking strategies, and active learning strategies.
Must be able to communicate well in both individual and group settings.
Must possess a professional personality that is welcoming, and customer focused.
Experience in higher education academic counseling preferred.
Education and Background:
Master's Degree in education with a preference for candidate with specific academic counseling experience. 2-3 years of previous experience in higher education and/or working with medical students.
Physical Requirements:

Specialized training or the willingness to participate in training in the use of assistive devices, amplification, and language facilitation techniques.
NATURE OF WORK:
The Language Facilitator's primary role as a member of the educational team is to facilitate communication between D/HH students and classroom teachers, administrators, peers, and other school staff .
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Monitors D/HH students' understanding of all auditory information within the educational setting and facilitates communication between D/HH students and general education teachers, students, and other school staff as appropriate in the student's preferred communication mode(s).
Previews classroom setting (including lighting, placement, availability of captioning, etc.) and modifies physical environment as needed to ensure the provision of equal access to visual and auditory information for D/HH students.
Previews instructional lessons and materials to ensure accurate facilitation of instructional content.
Collaborates with the teacher of the D/HH and other school staff to ensure the needs of students are met, and serves as a liaison within the school environment, promoting positive and cooperative relationships.
Monitors student comprehension and provides instructional reinforcement as needed, under the direction of the Teacher of the D/HH. Assists in monitoring of amplification and/or IEP progress as appropriate, documenting progress and concerns through logs, as determined by the educational team.
Gradually leads student toward more responsibility for his/her own education and communicative competence. Expectations for language facilitators at the primary level are more comprehensive than at the intermediate level, with the goal of gradually phasing out the service to an individual student as appropriate.
Serves as a member of the educational team(s) involved with particular D/HH student(s), and participates as appropriate in the Individual Education Program (IEP) process, inservicing and consulting with regular education staff and students regarding language facilitation service, teaming with appropriate teachers and staff, and providing direct language facilitation service to learners. .
Follows all school policies as stated in individual school handbooks and performs other duties required of all building staff as directed by the building principal to promote the safety and welfare of all students in the school, as long as duties do not interfere with the primary role of facilitating communication for D/HH students.

Coordinate with client's QMHP during client's Annual Review period to schedule ALOC/CAFAS interview. Coordinate with family and wraparound team to ensure Annual POC is completed timely as dictated by SED Waiver policy.
Assist client and family with utilization of natural community supports and safety planning when transitioning client off SED Waiver services when no longer functionally eligible.
Facilitate client autonomy by helping them build on strengths, increase community integration and learn more effective controls for emotional disturbances based on medical necessity.
Build a relationship with community agencies that will provide a natural, supportive network for clients in their quest for mastery in various situations.
Assume an advocacy role for clients and their families.
Have a minimum of 60% of work hours of client contact per week.
Complete check-ins with families at minimum every 45 days to ensure medical services are being provided and help bridge any barriers to services.
When necessary or possible, help integrate clients into existing emergency service systems.
Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:
Have at least a BA/BS degree or be equivalently qualified by work experience or a combination of work experience in the human services field and education, with one year of experience substitution for one year of education. Must have a dependable vehicle and valid driver's license. Must provide proof of insurance. Pass a criminal background and driver's license check to the satisfaction of SCMH.

What You'll Do
At Mid American Credit Union a Training and DevelopmentSpecialist is responsible for collaborating with others to develop, coordinate and conduct training for new and existing staff. This position also works with the Information Systems team to facilitate process and product implementations and enhancements.
Conduct training with staff in live, classroom and /or video environments to ensure product knowledge, account servicing, compliance and procedure training requirements have been achieved.
Tracks the progress of trainees through routine tests, observations and feedback; evaluates the effectiveness of current training. Continually work with supervisors to identify reinforcement training needs.
Participate in process and product implementations and support as directed by management. Efforts may include, but not limited to functional analysis, system set-up, QA testing, documentation and training. Admin and subject matter expert tasks may include on-going staff support, resolution of report errors, release upgrades and vendor communication.
Trains existing staff on on-going system enhancements and related policy/procedural changes.
Maintain accurate and up-to date training manuals and develop a variety of learning and performance support solutions such as system simulations, multimedia visual aids, learning aids, user's guides and reference materials.
Participate in the delivery of operations change management meetings, including preparation of materials, testing, delivery of content and follow-up requests. Work closely with staff to ensure systems are utilized consistently across organization, achieving anticipated efficiencies. Analyze and document changing business processes; defines corresponding system changes to support business needs.
Partner with subject matter experts to develop and maintain training curriculum and requirements including but not limited to; branch operations including new accounts and lending, teller activities, back office operations, product knowledge, account servicing and relationship building skills.
Conduct needs assessments to diagnose training and development needs of existing staff. Develop programs to address specific needs. Provide on-going staff support by answering questions on function, features and usage of assigned systems.

What You Need to Get the Job Done
Education - High School Diploma or GED required

Member service experience including the ability to effectively perform the skills necessary to deliver exceptional service, such as communication, empathy, patience and organization.
Must be able to travel up to 20% of time up to five consecutive days and four nights out of town.
