1971

Dialysis Clinic Inc. (DCI) was conceived and founded in 1971 to provide affordable dialysis service to the increasing number of patients suffering from end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and needing dialysis for continued survival.

1973

Scribner also developed a home dialysis unit, and by 1973, about 60 percent of patients received dialysis in dialysis clinics, while 40 percent had their treatments at home.

In 1973, Congress made almost all patients with end-stage renal diseases (ESRD) eligible for Medicare.

2007

Doctor Jonathan Himmelfarb had been appointed to the chair and named the first director of the Kidney Research Institute shortly before Doctor Eschbach’s death in 2007.

2012

Our dialysis museum, opened in 2012 in honor of our 50th anniversary, highlights crucial moments in Northwest Kidney Centers’ history, dating back to the early days when an Admissions Committee determined who would receive dialysis — a scarce resource at the time — and who would not.
