- Marine mechanics may work outdoors at docks or marinas, as well as in all weather conditions, when making repairs aboard boats.
- They may work in cramped or awkward positions to reach a boat's engine. Must be able to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend and climb beside, onto and underneath various equipment to perform diagnosis and repairs.
- Must be able to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports.

St Louis Composting Inc., producer of STA-Certified Compost, Mulch Products and Soil Blends,is accepting applications for a Diesel Engine Mechanic position at our Belleville, IL shop location.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains heavy equipment, tractor-trailers and vehicles by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements, correcting vehicle deficiencies, making adjustments and alignments and keeping records.
Must present a neat and professional appearance.
Ensures a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
Perform daily pre-shift safety inspection and maintenance of equipment.
Assist with plant maintenance.
Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Must possess a valid US drivers license in good standing, with no restrictions or major points/violations.
Must be qualified to to DOT inspections and have at least 2 years of hands-on experience with diesel engines in one of the following types of diesel equipment: commercial vehicles, tractor-trailers and/or heavy equipment machines
At least 2 years of experience with the following diagnostic experience: diesel emissions aftertreatment systems, electrical, air conditioning, powertrain
At least 2 years of experience with the following welding experience: stick welding, wire welding
Must have the following certifications: brakes, air conditioning
Must be able to read and understand English.
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Must be able to successfully pass an extensive drug screening (includes urine, hair and breath alcohol testing).
Must be willing to submit to a criminal background screening.
Must be in good physical condition, able to lift 50lbs and stand for long periods of time, etc.
Must be willing to work shift and/or overtime overs during the week, including after dark and/or weekends and holidays as dictated by operations.
Must be able to follow instructions, take direction well and be able to adapt to changes in the operation
Must be able to work well in a high volume, fast-paced environment with strict deadlines
Must have a strong work ethic and be able to remain busy the entire day, looking for new tasks or where else to help when your tasks are completed
