As the Mechanic Helper, you will work on-site and primarily be working on projects within Alaska or the Pacific Rim. You will perform duties such as changing oil and tires, replacing hoses and belts, inspecting brakes, and helping diagnose vehicle issues. In addition, you will perform tasks involving physical labor including operating hand/power tools of all types: small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments.
How will you do it?
Follow all safety procedures, identify and report any hazards as observed for safety of personnel and equipment
Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment, such as oil changes, lubrication, and fueling.
Maintain inventory of fluids required for maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
Keep the work area and equipment clean and organized.
Perform regular inventory of parts and supplies.
Store parts and supplies in correct location for ease of access by all team members

The Service Technician is a skilled professional responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing all types of automotive problems. You'll be the heart of the service department, using your technical expertise and problem-solving skills to ensure vehicles are running smoothly and safely.
Responsibilities:
Diagnosis and Repair:
Analyze customer concerns and symptoms to identify the root cause of vehicle malfunctions.
Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to pinpoint problems (scanners, multimeters, pressure gauges, etc.).
Conduct thorough inspections of various vehicle systems (engine, transmission, brakes, electrical, etc.).
Prepare repair plans outlining necessary repairs and estimated costs, obtaining customer authorization before proceeding.
Repair and replace faulty components following service manuals and manufacturer specifications.
Test repairs to ensure functionality and safety.
Document all repairs and parts used on service orders.
Customer Service:
Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner, explaining technical issues in an understandable way.
Provide accurate estimates and timelines for repairs.
Keep customers updated on service progress and address any concerns promptly.
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
Possess a strong understanding of automotive systems, including their operation, diagnosis, and repair.
Stay up to date on new technologies and repair procedures through training and certifications.
Perform a wide range of repairs, from basic maintenance to complex engine or transmission overhauls (depending on experience).
Proficient in using various diagnostic tools and automotive repair equipment.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols.
Additional Responsibilities:
May perform test drives to evaluate vehicle performance and diagnose issues.
May research technical information and consult with colleagues or service manuals to solve complex problems.
May recommend preventative maintenance services to customers.
Contribute to a positive and efficient work environment within the service department.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a Service Technician or related automotive repair experience.
Completion of an automotive technician training program or equivalent experience preferred.
Certifications: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications is a strong plus.
Skills:
Strong understanding of automotive systems, diagnostics, and repair procedures.
Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Manual dexterity and the ability to perform physical tasks (lifting, bending, reaching).
Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with customers.

AS A GSE MECHANIC
You'll maintain and repair various ground support equipment (GSE), including tow tractors, belt loaders, pushback tractors, deicers, and more. You'll troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and HVAC systems and ensure proper documentation, safety, and quality standards are met. Position is based at the Ketchikan airport.

UIC Oil & Gas Support (UICOGS) is seeking an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic to maintain and repair heavy equipment, generators, and on-highway trucks supporting Arctic oilfield operations. The mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing, servicing, and overhauling equipment including Volvo loaders, John Deere and CAT machinery, diesel generators, Kenworth and Peterbilt semi-trucks, and specialized tundra vehicles. This role is critical to ensuring operational readiness and reliability in Prudhoe Bay's extreme conditions.
**Responsibilities**
Essential functions will include:
+ Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment including Volvo loaders, John Deere graders/dozers, CAT excavators, and other construction/oilfield machinery.
+ Perform engine overhauls, transmission rebuilds, and major component replacements.
+ Service and maintain Kenworth and Peterbilt semi-trucks and trailers (brakes, driveline, suspension, hydraulics, electrical).
+ Maintain and repair diesel generators (standby and continuous duty), including electrical, fuel, and control systems.
+ Conduct electrical system diagnostics and repairs (wiring, alternators, starters, sensors, ECMs).
+ Perform preventative maintenance inspections and scheduled service on all heavy-duty fleet assets.
+ Use laptop-based and manufacturer-specific diagnostic software (Volvo VCADS, CAT ET, Cummins Insite, etc.).
+ Document service, repairs, and parts usage in digital/app-based fleet management systems.
+ Provide field support for breakdowns in remote Arctic locations, including on-site repairs during extreme weather.
+ Maintain shop safety, organization, and compliance with UICOGS, client, and OSHA standards.
**Qualifications**
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Minimum 5 years of heavy-duty mechanic experience (oilfield or remote operations strongly preferred).
+ Strong hands-on experience with Volvo, John Deere, CAT equipment, diesel generators, Kenworth and Peterbilt semi-trucks.
+ Familiarity with PistenBully snowcats, Tucker SnoCats, and Sherp vehicles is a significant plus.
+ Demonstrated ability to perform engine overhauls and advanced electrical diagnostics.
+ Skilled in hydraulics, diesel fuel systems, driveline, and chassis repairs.
+ Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
+ Welding and fabrication skills a plus.
+ Valid driver's license required; CDL Class A preferred.
+ Must pass DOT drug/alcohol screening and remain compliant.
+ Physically capable of lifting 100 lbs and working outdoors in -40°F Arctic conditions.
Work Schedule & Environment:
+ 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off rotation.
+ UICOGS covers flights between Anchorage (ANC) and Deadhorse (DH).
+ Minimum 12-hour shifts, 7 days per week while on rotation.
+ During rig moves and peak winter mobilizations, mechanics may be required to work 16-18 hour days.
+ Remote Arctic shop and field environment; meals and lodging provided.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Ensure guest vehicles are returned as clean as they were prior to being serviced.
Show the utmost courtesy to all guests, visitors and dealership personnel.
