THE WORK
The Experimental Aircraft Mechanic will perform work using general instructions, drawings, and E.O,'s. They will plan and perform maintenance tasks independently, including a wide variety of operations to install, repair, modify, replace, or adjust aircraft components including landing gear, rotor head and transmission, engine and accessories, tail cone, gear boxes, retro-fit kits, etc.
They will install control rods and cables, servos, and other control units. Rig all phases of flight, engine, main rotor head and tail rotor controls, including secondary check out and troubleshooting. Install tubing and hydraulic units and systems, including servos, and make operational checks.
Install and check out electrical harness and equipment kits per standard procedure. Repair, modify, and install all miscellaneous parts and equipment as required, incorporate all changes and modifications, and file, fit, drill, ream, countersink bolt, rivet, etc., as necessary to install and fasten parts.
Perform other miscellaneous and related duties involved in technical modifications and overhaul and repair operations in accordance with individual job assignments or as workload warrants, including cleaning aircraft and parts, moving aircraft, and other duties.
Work shall be performed primarily in Stratford, CT. OCONUS/CONUS travel will be required to support business requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking a qualified person with the ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, dismantle, assemble, fix, repair, adjust, align, and maintain industrial/plant machinery in a systematic manner and with a high degree of efficiency. The qualified candidate is familiar with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems and equipment (piping, pumps, blowers, compressors, grinders, choppers, mixers, motors, starters, controllers). The successful candidate will become part of an operations team supporting our large-scale food waste processing systems and onsite co-generation plant ensuring they operate at peak efficiency. The duties and responsibilities of this position include:
Fix, repair and maintain mixers, pumps, in line equipment, grinders, chopper pumps etc.
Assist in troubleshooting mechanical issues with unique large scale food waste processing equipment and maintain equipment based on equipment manufacturer specifications.
Work alongside our team to maintain our co-generation electrical unit, repairing pumps and mixers, large scale repairs to solid waste equipment, and general preventative maintenance.
Works safely at all times by preparing and/or following Lock Out/Tag Out procedures to protect self, other personnel, and plant equipment/systems.
Reads and interpret tables, drawings and specifications as well as think critically to evaluate the condition of systems, machines, equipment, and their components.
Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment based on manufacturer specifications.
Fabricates/constructs or orders replacement parts and installs them.
Uses a variety of hand tools, measuring tools, and equipment for cutting, welding and brazing.
Uses hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks to safely rig and move machinery when needed.

Job Purpose/Function:
The B Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance of Norwalk Transit District's fleet of diesel and gas powered vehicles, including buses, body-on-chassis vehicles and all support vehicles; vehicle related components, including wheelchair lifts and ramps; vehicle support equipment; facilities and their related equipment, including fork lift and sweeper; light repair of HVAC, electrical and plumbing; maintaining all fixed passenger amenities; and, other duties as assigned by the Foreman/Management. All duties are performed with light supervision of an A Mechanic or the Foreman.
Responsibilities
Opening and closing of facility: perform security and general inspection of facility.
Completing scheduled Preventative Maintenance inspections of vehicles and equipment.
Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and reviewing systems.
Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs on repair orders and inspection forms.
Respond to road calls and/or vehicle breakdowns.
Repair reported vehicle defects.
Use repair manuals, diagrams and diagnostic devices to determine vehicle performance conditions when conducting inspections or troubleshooting defects.
Troubleshoot engine performance and repair (in chassis overhaul).

Vehicle maintenance/repair will include, but not be limited to, the following major component parts and/or systems: power and drive trains, electrical, suspension, brakes, air system, chassis, steering and alignment, fuel, emissions, exhaust, heating and air conditioning, coolant, accessibility features, and all other current and future features of a public transit vehicle. These duties are performed with light supervision and/or instruction of an A Mechanic or the Foreman.
Maintains and corrects vehicle, shop equipment, and facility deficiencies by servicing, removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling and replacing major assemblies and sub-assemblies, as required.
Maintain all equipment by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; and repair as needed.
Perform light body repairs, including but not limited to, replacing body parts, panels, bumpers and doors; priming and painting; and any other related activity.
Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing and painting if needed.
Assist with inventory control through communicating part number utilization and remaining stock in inventory.
Contains costs by evaluating service and parts options, as well as warranty provisions when available.
Provide back-up for service line fueling, washing and cleaning.
Perform snow and ice clean-up/removal at all Transit District facilities using designated snow equipment.
Maintain job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading related technical, mechanical and regulation publications.

Safety & Security:
As part of daily duties, maintain the safety and security of the facility:
Carries out safety and security policies and practices.
Observes surroundings and notes/reports any changes to supervisor.

Education and Experience Required:
Graduation from High School or a GED certificate.
Preferable technical and/or diesel trade school.
At least three years' mechanical experience in the heavy duty diesel transit vehicles.

Ability to read and follow manuals and diagnostic equipment to achieve desired repairs.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with supervisor.
Must have or obtain an appropriate Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of hiring.
