Position Summary: The mechanic will be responsible for the day-to-day and preventive maintenance of the company's fleet, including heavy trucks, equipment, and light trucks. This role involves performing inspections, diagnosing issues, and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems to ensure the fleet is fully operational. The mechanic will conduct routine tasks like oil changes, brake checks, and running diagnostic tests, while also maintaining accurate records and inventory. A minimum of one year of experience in servicing equipment is required, with experience in at least two of the following: heavy trucks, heavy equipment, diesel, light trucks, or automotive and gen sets. Strong communication, dependability, and physical capability are essential.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Perform maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repairs on equipment and tools encompassing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems.
Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostics of the fleet to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
Ensure proper repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment, utilizing industry-standard procedures.
Run diagnostic tests to assess system performance and identify potential issues.
Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes and brake inspections, to ensure optimal vehicle performance.
Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and inventory of parts.
Ensure physical fitness to carry out all required job functions.
Uphold a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company safety standards.
Undertake any other duties as assigned to support the smooth operation of the team and company objectives.
Required Qualifications:
Possess a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the daily servicing and maintenance of equipment.
Experience must include at least two of the following: heavy trucks, heavy equipment, diesel engines, light trucks, automotive systems, and generator sets.
Demonstrate the ability to perform maintenance tasks in a timely and precise manner, ensuring operational efficiency.
Exhibit dependability, reliability, and a proactive approach to tasks with minimal supervision.

CDL Preferred: While not mandatory, possessing a valid CDL or the ability to drive and operate a truck is highly preferred.

JOB PURPOSE:
Perform as advanced level transit mechanic. Perform intermediate to advanced diagnosis and repair of University of Wyoming transit buses. Serve as diesel technician. Assist in all other repairs and preventative maintenance as needed to include diagnostics, electrical, transmissions, engines and rebuilds.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Inspect, test, diagnose, and repair diesel and/or gas vehicles and equipment. Inspect vehicle components, parts, and accessories to ensure safe operation that is compliant with all DOT, FTA, and ADA regulations. Adhere to safety and preventative maintenance standards and procedures.
Perform intermediate to advanced vehicle/equipment maintenance and repairs to transit fleet to include Gillig, International buses, foreign and domestic vehicles, UTV and ATVs. Diagnose, maintain, test and repair fleet and/or vehicles to keep in optimum and safe conditions.
Read and interpret vehicle manuals and schematics to perform complex repairs/maintenance.
Repair and replace parts to resolve malfunctions; clean equipment/parts by washing with solvents, soaps and water or steam cleaning; perform preventive maintenance on equipment/parts to ensure work-life and efficiency. Operate and test-drive vehicles.
Oversee the maintenance and organization of tools, equipment, and shop area to ensure optimal functionality, availability and adherence to safety standards.
Compile and organize documentation, including repair and maintenance logs and parts lists, for submission to the supervisor to facilitate accurate entry into the work order management system.
Provide support to the supervisor by assisting with task assignments, work scheduling, parts procurement, and work order management. Assume supervisory responsibilities as needed to ensure continuity of operations.
Facilitate and manage communication with external service providers to ensure efficient coordination and resolution of service needs.

Automotive Technicians have a deep knowledge of the various systems within a car or truck and can reference manuals and technical drawings in order to perform repairs. Automotive Technicians are responsible for safely and efficiently operating tools, keeping tools in proper working order, and efficiently producing repairs that meet quality standards.

* Apprentices must successfully pass/complete a minimum of 144 hours of employer-selected training courses that align with their competencies (either through relevant college coursework or other training - on-the-job-training does not apply to this requirement)
* Apprentices must complete 2,000 hours of work at their company
* Apprentices must obtain proficiency in 100% of their Technical competencies and 75% of their Career-Ready competencies in order to complete the apprenticeship
