PURPOSE STATEMENT: Performs assigned tasks under general supervision of automotive supervisor, and in his absence, the foreman. Assists higher grade mechanics in overhaul/rebuilding/reconditioning engines/electrical systems/transmissions/drive trains/assemblies with all in-progress and completed work regularly checked by higher grade and/or supervision to meet quality specifications/standards. This position offers the opportunity to advance to a Grade 7 Mechanic at $43.19/hr, based on performance, experience, and qualifications. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs job tasks from written/oral instructions by shop lead person (foreman) supervisor, or higher-grade mechanic; follows specific instructions/methods/procedures in the diagnosis/disassembling/repair/re-building ofmechanical engines, equipment, machines, and operating vehicles. Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles such parts as transmissions, clutches, differentials, and final drive assemblies, following prescribed procedures/methods to meet quality specifications of manufacturer and/or supervisor. Adjusts and/or replaces brakes and clutches, replaces broken springs, tie rods, clutches, wheel alignment, repairs leaky radiators and makes minor adjustments to electrical and fuel systems. Performs general maintenance tasks - tunes and lubricates - to ensure continued and safe road operations for all vehicle types/models in employer's fleet inventory. Performs trouble/road calls as dispatched. Keeps work area/garage in a neat/orderly/tidy condition. Reports all hazardous and/or unsafe conditions to supervisor and takes initiative to correct same and wears all prescribed safety equipment. Ability to report to and work at various garage locations as required. Job Description The Mobile Equipment Body Repairer/Mechanic possess working knowledge of equipment body construction, advanced metalworking skills, troubleshooting and diagnosis skills, and the mechanical aptitude to use a wide range of hand and power tools for repair and maintenance work. Incumbents manufacture body components, various brackets and clamps from sheet metal. Operates conventional machinery such as press brake, metal shears, punch press, roll machine, spot welder, welding equipment, punch press, and other shop related equipment. Typical work performed: Incumbent will repair and replace such damaged body components as fenders, panels, windows, and truck beds as well as repair damage to mainframes and body structural members such as door posts, door frames, skeletal frame work, and main support members. The work at this level requires the fitting of body to frame, doors, window channels, hoods, trunk lids and other parts. Additional repairs may include repair of damaged parts such as folds, wrinkles, and large tears in fenders, doors, hoods, and roofs. On occasion, perform duties related to United States marine Corps corrosion prevention and control, which includes but is not limited to: the application of corrosion preventative compounds, surface preparation and touch up, accurately identify Marine Corps category codes 1-5, the four stages of corrosion, and the correlation of category codes and the stages of corrosion. The Mobile Equipment Body Repairer/Mechanic possess working knowledge of equipment body construction, advanced metalworking skills, troubleshooting and diagnosis skills, and the mechanical aptitude to use a wide range of hand and power tools for repair and maintenance work. Incumbents manufacture body components, various brackets and clamps from sheet metal. Operates conventional machinery such as press brake, metal shears, punch press, roll machine, spot welder, welding equipment, punch press, and other shop related equipment. Typical work performed: Incumbent will repair and replace such damaged body components as fenders, panels, windows, and truck beds as well as repair damage to mainframes and body structural members such as door posts, door frames, skeletal frame work, and main support members. The work at this level requires the fitting of body to frame, doors, window channels, hoods, trunk lids and other parts. Additional repairs may include repair of damaged parts such as folds, wrinkles, and large tears in fenders, doors, hoods, and roofs. On occasion, perform duties related to United States marine Corps corrosion prevention and control, which includes but is not limited to: the application of corrosion preventative compounds, surface preparation and touch up, accurately identify Marine Corps category codes 1-5, the four stages of corrosion, and the correlation of category codes and the stages of corrosion.
