About this Role
FiberTel is looking for an experienced Field Mechanic for our Sacramento, CA location.
The Field Mechanic will be responsible for traveling to our job sites in California and performing diagnostics and repairs on our heavy equipment and fleet trucks. The preferred applicant will have vast experience in the industry, able to do about anything needed to fix all aspects of equipment like skid steers, mini's, excavators, dozers, plows and such. The MechanicHelper is an entry-level position responsible for supporting mechanics in the maintenance and repair of both passenger vehicles and heavy construction equipment. This role provides hands-on learning opportunities while performing a variety of tasks to ensure the shop and service areas operate efficiently and safely.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist/ perform basic maintenance tasks such as vehicle & equipment inspections, oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid level checks.
Prepare tools, parts, and the work area before service operations.
Clean and maintain tools, parts, and equipment.
Organize and maintain inventory of tools and equipment.
Assist in the setup and operation of the Mobile Service Truck.
Support mobile service efforts by helping perform repairs at job sites and other designated locations under supervision.
Assist in any related areas as assigned by Warehouse Manager or Superintendents.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
Wear appropriate PPE at all times.
Operate tools, machinery, and diagnostic equipment according to manufacturer specifications and safety guidelines.
Inspect and maintain tools and equipment regularly to ensure they are in safe working condition.
Secure vehicles and equipment prior to inspection or repair (e.g., use of jack stands, wheel chocks).
Follow safe lifting procedures for heavy parts and equipment.
Maintain clean and organized work areas free of hazards.
Follow all traffic and environmental safety protocols when working at off-site locations.
Use appropriate signage or barriers when working in public or shared spaces.
Properly store, handle, and dispose of fuels, lubricants, batteries, and other hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA and EPA regulations.
Understand and follow Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals used.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED required.
Valid driver's license required. CDL preferred (if operating or transporting heavy equipment).
Basic mechanical knowledge and strong willingness to learn.
Must be physically able to lift, bend, stand, and work in varying environmental conditions.
Basic tool handling and mechanical skills.
Understanding of common vehicle and heavy equipment types.
Knowledge of shop safety practices.
Ability to perform fluid checks and basic component replacements.
Ability to travel frequently between islands with occasional overnight stay.
Ability to work overtime, holidays and weekends as needed.

Our Locomotive Service Techs travel to customer sites to perform maintenance, repairs or upgrades on locomotives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
