This position reports to the Service Supervisor from whom work assignments are received. Parts are requisitioned and reports are submitted through that office. Since some of the service calls are because of incumbent's contacts or solicitations, the Field Service Mechanic is required to keep his supervisor informed of his activities and any change in his schedule. Servicemen are usually assigned to a territory but are called upon to assist in other areas as required. Some may not be attached, but “float” on special assignments or to fill in as needed. This “Service after Sales” contact helps to enhance the company image and reputation in the field and directly affects repeat sales. Qualifications Required Skills/Abilities: This job requires stooping, bending, climbing, and the capability of lifting 50 pounds. Incumbent must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record, since employee will be driving company owned vehicle and will be covered under corporate insurance which has strict coverage requirements. Incumbents will be required on occasion to stay overnight at out-of-town locations. Basic computer skills required. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and other technical material. Education and Experience: Some vocational or formal schooling in hydraulics and diesel engine repair. Three years on the job experience in diesel mechanics and hydraulics. Schooling in these fields could substitute for some of the job experience. While it is not a requirement that the FSM pass the AWSD14 Welding Test, the incumbent is required to pass the tacker test. The FSM is encouraged to practice and improve welding skills to pass the AWSD14 Welding Test to be considered for future promotions. Education and Experience * High school diploma or equivalent. * Must have basic set of personal tools. * Trade school diploma or equivalent preferred. * Current Driver's License with clean driving history. * Previous inventory and/or warehouse experience preferred. * Line Mechanic or Mechanic Helper / Associate experience preferred. * 2 ASE Certifications-(Truck or Automotive series) Brake and Steering / Suspension. * Must be completed within first 6 months of employment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Basic automotive knowledge and skills necessary to perform maintenance and repairs on company vehicles. * Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication. * Knowledge of computer systems. * Knowledge of basic software programs. * Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices. * Ability to understand and apply applicable policies and procedures. * Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of work assignments. * Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. * Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques. * Ability to work independently. * Ability to read electrical diagrams, and repair manuals. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. * Skill in the operation of word processing software programs on a personal computer. Physical Demands/Working Conditions Physical Requirement: Must have ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. Employee must be able to see, sit, climb or balance, hear, use hands, taste/smell, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, walk, talk, and reach with hands and arms. This position performs duties of more than average difficulty requiring the exercise of considerable initiative and independent judgment under general direction. Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions, including temperature extremes, during day and night shifts. Work is often performed in stressful situations. Travel: Limited to local travel between offices and/or vendors. Hours: M-F varied hours. TransCare is open 365 days a year 24-hours a day. Employee may be required to work some holidays, evenings, and/or weekends. Employee may be re-called to duty in the event of a declared disaster or emergency.
