The focus of this position is to clean and recondition Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF), Shipping and Receiving in addition to managing inventory of filters at Penske service locations. This position plays a critical role in examining the DPF and determining if it can be reconditioned as well as returning it to 80% or better of its original capacity.
Major Responsibilities:
• Examine and test the component for restriction and cell integrity by using bore scope and trap tester machine. Determine if core is able to be cleaned and reused or should be disposed, as measured against the appropriate baseline for the filter type
• Clean the core using the appropriate patterns and nozzles in the trap blaster cabinet
• Retest cleaned unit for tolerance levels and if failed, bake unit in kiln, clean again and retest.
• Data entry for DPF condition, measurements and pass/fail. Pass failed data to Warranty for potential recovery
• Shipping & Receiving DPFs
• Make recommendations for improving cleaning process as well as throughput. Manage maintenance and cleaning of equipment as needed.
• Assist with managing inventory levels (cleaning appropriate DPF's to maintain needed stock based on consumption)
• Other projects as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
• 1-2 years of automotive or diesel experience preferred
• Vocational or Technical certification preferred
• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Prior mechanical experience in the trucking industry is preferred.
• Working knowledge in the use of hand tools required
• A valid driver's license
• Basic computer skills preferred for data entry into maintenance systems
• Ability to operate machinery/equipment properly and efficiently
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job

About the Reefer Mechanic Position:
As a Reefer Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and inspection tasks on refrigerated trailers (reefers) to ensure they are safe, efficient, and roadworthy. Your primary duties will include diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and structural issues, repairing or replacing damaged components, conducting routine inspections, and providing expert recommendations on reefer upkeep. Skills & Experience :
* Diagnose & Repair electrical & electronic systems
* Replace or repair transmissions & fuel components as needed
* Repair cooling components and systems including air conditioners and engine cooling
* Perform emissions inspections, safety checks and similar state - regulated vehicle examinations.
* Maintain a clean, safe working environment
* Produce legible and accurate paperwork reflecting work performed
* Prosses a valid state driver's license for conducting test drivers
* 3+ years of Automotive background ( Required )
* At least 2+ year of Automotive Diagnostic ( Required )
