Shift: Monday- Friday, 6:00am - 3:00pm Role of Mechanic Apprentice: Under direct supervision, through on-the-job training, classroom instruction and certifications, services, maintains, inspects, and repairs vehicles, machinery, and/or equipment to assure the safety and ongoing operation of all vehicles and equipment in the company. Upon successful completion of the four-year mechanic apprentice program, the apprentice will be classified as a certified, journeyman mechanic. Essential Responsibilities * Actively participates in training sessions, both formal and on-the-job, to develop skills and knowledge in repair and maintenance of equipment and machinery. * Assists experienced mechanics with their tasks, such as repairing and maintaining trucks and machinery. * Perform simple repairs and routine maintenance tasks under supervision, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections. * Properly using, maintaining, and organizing tools and equipment. * Assisting in diagnosing issues with trucks and equipment by following instructions and using diagnostic tools. * Adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. * Successful completion of a maximum four-year apprentice training program. * Other duties as assigned. The Transportation mechanic position has one primary function, SAFETY. Our first and foremost priority is to ensure that our trucks are maintained to the highest standards. This includes the requirement that we are well-versed in all FMCSA rules regulations and procedures. Further, we understand and document our compliance with these rules adequately. We have an obligation to the public, our employees, our drivers, our vendors, our customers, and our Company to operate our maintenance program with the highest level of expertise and compliance possible. Operational Expectations: Our foremost requirement is a complete familiarity with FMCSA regulations as they pertain to maintenance. Compliance will measured by our CSA scores for Vehicle Maintenance. Our out-of-service and out-of-compliance issues from roadside inspections will be used as a measure of how well we are performing our maintenance and regulatory responsibilities. Communication is fundamental to the successful maintenance of our equipment. We must have clear lines of communication between drivers, shop, and management so that we can appropriately respond to mechanical issues. The first leg of the maintenance stool is regularly scheduled for maintenance. Service intervals, our Lubrication Policy, and our inspection schedule are all clearly laid out in the RTA Maintenance Software. The second leg of the maintenance stool is the driver-discovered issues that need to be addressed. This requires a robust electronic DVIR reporting and response protocol. The third leg of the stool is our maintenance personnel. It is your responsibility to inspect and repair any defects that may cause our vehicles to break down or become unsafe. This requires that you maintain your skill level by taking advantage of training offered by vendors, the Oregon Trucking Association, and other sources. Training new employees on proper inspection, diagnosis, and repair is essential. Teambuilding: One of the top five (5) reasons drivers choose to leave an employer is because they feel they are not listened to and that their equipment is not properly maintained. I recognize that there has often been an adversarial relationship between drivers and mechanics. Both have the same obligation to promote the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles. It is incumbent on the shop to take the lead in recognizing that the drivers are your primary stakeholders. They rely on you to address their maintenance issues and to ensure that any vehicle they operate is safe. Administrative Expectations: All maintenance records must be complete, timely, and accurate. Work orders and time records need to be turned in daily at the end of each shift. Parts ordering, receiving and usage must be accomplished in such a manner as to get the best parts at the best price. All inventory records must be maintained and reconciled periodically. Outsourcing work to other shops may be necessary. When our shop is behind it is imperative that you notify your supervisor that work may need to be outsourced. This will allow you to make better use of your skills and ensure that our fleet is still being inspected regularly. It will also prevent us from getting behind on the routine issues that we are better equipped to handle. A Mechanic is a skilled and detail-oriented position and critical to our team's success. In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of vehicles and machinery, ensuring that they operate safely and efficiently. You will work on various systems within the vehicle, including the engine, transmission, brakes, and electrical system, among others. This role requires a strong understanding of automotive technology and proficiency in using diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve issues. A level 1 Mechanic must be confident and capable in the following services: Brakes, Suspension/Steering, Charging Systems, & Basic Tune-Ups. .RESPONSIBILITIES to include, but are not limited to: Two ASE Certifications: A4 - Steering and Suspension; A5 - Brakes Conducting visual inspections of the vehicle for signs of wear or damage. Understanding of basic car components. (Suspension, brakes, Steering, wiper blades, dash lights, Head/Tail Lights, etc..) Proper Lifting Procedures: Evaluating vehicle or trailer and lift using proper equipment in accordance to safety protocols. Proficient in brake inspection, repair, and replacement, ensuring safe and efficient brake system operation. Knowledge of brake components, including pads, rotors, calipers, and brake lines, with the ability to perform accurate diagnostics and maintenance. Competence in inspecting and repairing suspension components to ensure vehicle stability and ride comfort. Proficiency in diagnosing and addressing issues related to shocks, struts, control arms, and other suspension parts. Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing steering components, including the steering rack, power steering pump, and tie rods, to ensure precise and safe vehicle control. Ability to perform steering system inspections, alignments, and adjustments for optimal steering responsiveness and alignment. Capability to diagnose and repair charging system components, such as the alternator and battery, to ensure a reliable electrical power supply. Proficiency in testing and replacing faulty alternators, voltage regulators, and batteries to maintain proper electrical functionality in the vehicle. Ability to inspect and replace spark plugs, ignition wires, air filters, and fuel filters, cooling system, compression to improve engine performance and fuel efficiency. Proficiency in setting ignition timing and adjusting carburetors or fuel injection systems for optimal engine operation. Interacting with customers to understand their tire needs and provide recommendations. Proper greeting and phone etiquette. Maintaining and calibrating equipment, such as lifts and any specialty area equipment. Inspecting tires for defects and ensuring they meet safety standards. Maintaining records of repairs and other services performed. Adhering to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents or injuries. Requirements High School Diploma or GED required, vocational training or technical training program in automotive service technology or a related field preferred. ASE Certification preferred, or a willingness to attain it with our full support and assistance. 2-4 years of hands-on practical experience. Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools is essential. A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to quickly identify issues and develop solutions is critical. Attention to Detail: Precision in diagnosing problems and making repairs is necessary to ensure vehicles and machinery are operating safely and efficiently. Physical Stamina and Dexterity: often work in physically demanding environments and must be able to handle tools and components comfortably. Organizational Skills: Keeping track of multiple repairs, parts orders, and schedules requires strong organizational capabilities. The Position As an FAA Certified Part 145 Repair Station, Hillsboro Aviation provides comprehensive maintenance and avionics services for a wide array of aircraft. From privately owned airplanes and helicopters to fixed and rotor-wing fleet operators; our clientele encompasses private, commercial, and government sectors. Our full-service facility in Hillsboro, Oregon supports scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, modifications and upgrades, avionics, and AOG emergencies. Our factory-trained mechanics and avionics technicians boast an average of over 20 years of experience. As a Senior Service Center Airbus H145 Mechanic, you will report to the Service Center Manager and will be responsible for leading maintenance projects and performing maintenance functions primarily on turbine helicopters. This position will also be responsible for supporting maintenance projects on jet, turboprop and high-performance piston aircraft. Ideal candidates are engaging, energetic, and driven. We are looking for someone who can work independently within their areas of responsibilities under limited supervision. The right candidate also values a strong work ethic and optimistic attitude while maintaining a critical eye for detail and organization. The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. We require overtime during the week and on weekends when it is necessary to maintain our commitments and keep the shop's schedule in balance. Job Responsibilities Supporting the Service Center Manager in execution of responsibilities as defined in Hillsboro Aviation's Repair Station Manual (RSM). Supporting the maintenance quality, efficiency, and regulatory compliance on all customer aircraft. Ensuring aircraft are maintained in accordance with the approved aircraft inspection program. Ensuring airworthiness and availability of assigned customer aircraft. Coordinating maintenance logistics to minimize downtime and maximize aircraft availability. Maintaining a high standard of quality for the shop environment, tools, and records. Other duties as assigned.
