    Job Description What You Will Do: The Automotive Service Technician functions as a moderate skill - level automotive technician who is able to perform diagnoses and repairs in all areas with proficiency and minimal supervision. The Automotive Service Technician - Customer Pay and Reconditioning will have progressive technical experience and may possess certifications from an accredited automotive credentialing body and maintain such certificates during the course of employment. This position requires the technician to service used car stock vehicle in preparation for sale, ensure proper functioning of main systems and safe vehicle operation. The technician shall be able to communicate and recommend the repairs needed while maintaining the required gross profit margin at time of sale. Technician will also perform repairs and maintenance to customer pay vehicle. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Job Duties: Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and company standards. Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair. Communicates with service advisor to obtain needed parts. Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer. Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended. Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time. Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order. Road tests vehicles when required to ensure proper repair of vehicle. Participates inemployer-sponsored training programs, schools and events. Keeps abreast of employer and/or manufacturer technical bulletins as required. Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned. Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor. Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle. Keeps shop area neat and clean. Maintains and is accountable for all company-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received. Understands, keeps abreast of and complies with federal, state and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know etc. Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner. Reports any safety issues immediately to management. Other tasks as assigned. Education, Certificates and Licenses and Experience: Automotive technician certification(s) from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or similar accredited credentialing body preferred. 5 years of related progressive technical experience required (or combination of education and experience). Used car reconditioning experience preferred. Dealership experience preferred. Valid driver's license. Required Skills/Abilities: Moderate knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair. Proficient mechanical repair skills. Analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues. Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
