JOB FUNCTION: 1. This position should be a person who has a significant knowledge of most repairs, overhauls, and maintenance of equipment. 2. Ability to wear respirators in environments that may expose you to chemicals, fumes, etc. 6. High school education acceptable. 3. Specific exposure to an equipment or maintenance environment. 4. Knowledge of basic hand tools for general equipment repair. 5. Equipment systems experience a plus. 6. Must have effective oral and written communications effective listening skills, and ability to interact with others. 7. Professional oral and written interpersonal communication ideal. 8. 3-4 years of diesel shop experience acceptable. 9. 4 or more years of diesel shop experience preferred.

The Mechanic A communicates with customers, educating them on necessary preventive vehicle maintenance. Additional duties may include courtesy services, and tire repair and replacement services. Essential Functions: * Performs work as outlined on repair order with safety, efficiency, and accuracy, in accordance with customer services and factory standards. * Diagnoses causes of any malfunction and performs repair as needed. * Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended. * Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer. * Communicates with manager or service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time. * Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order. * Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician. * Participates in FSU, manufacturer-sponsored training programs, or schools and events. * Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins. * Understands, and complies with federal, state and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know etc. * Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned. * Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor. * Notifies manager immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle. * Keeps shop area neat and clean. * Maintains and is accountable for all organization-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received. * Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know etc. * Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner. * Reports any safety issues immediately to management. * Must maintain a continuous store presence per the assigned schedule, including weekends, non-traditional workday hours * Other tasks as assigned. General Requirements: * Delivers an exceptional customer experience * Must have a genuine desire and ability to engage and please customers, build relationships, and create brand loyalty. * Contributes to meeting store performance goals. * Operates safely, with integrity and professionalism Qualifications Qualifications: * ASE certified. * Minimum of 7-10 years' experience working at a full service shop or full service repair experience.. * Five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience: * Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Mechanical experience in a retail automotive environment. * Service and operations background in the automotive industry * Must have own tools Physical Demands /Work Environment: * Ability to work in cramped places, such as underneath a jacked-up automobile. * Upper body strength and stamina to effectively use hand tools like hammers and wrenches and to make sure that fasteners are properly secured. * Fine motor skills to be able to work with small fasteners, such as nuts, bolts, and washers. * Vision: Ability to read diagrams. Often, they are required to work with color-coded wiring. * Ability to work in fluctuating weather temperatures and conditions.

This includes observing and participating in vehicle inspections, diagnostics, and repairs. * **Routine Maintenance:** perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and fluid checks under the supervision of experienced mechanics. * **Diagnosis and Repair:** assist with diagnosing vehicle issues by using diagnostic tools, conducting visual inspections, and listening to customer descriptions of problems. They then learn to perform repairs, which may include replacing parts, repairing systems, or performing adjustments. * **Learning Technical Skills:** will receive training on using various tools and equipment such as wrenches, sockets, jacks, diagnostic scanners, and lifts. They also learn about vehicle systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and suspension. * **Following Safety Protocols**: will learn about safety procedures and protocols, including handling hazardous materials, using personal protective equipment (PPE), and following proper lifting techniques. * **Documentation:** responsible for documenting their work, including recording services performed, parts used, and any additional recommendations for repairs or maintenance. * **Continued Learning and Certification:** required to attend training sessions, workshops, or pursue certifications to further develop their skills and knowledge in automotive repair. * A desire for job stability, security, and quality work.
