Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and necessary repairs to automobiles, trucks (light and heavy), trailers, vans and forklifts.
Disassembles and overhauls motors, transmissions, clutches, rear ends and electrical systems.
Complete all necessary documents, including vehicle records.
Manage ordering and inventory of parts.
Will act as a mentor to the class I & II mechanics.

9:00AM until finished

The Heavy Truck Mechanic position at the City of Tucson's General Services Department rebuilds and installs components and makes service calls, performs preventive maintenance to chassis, and performs body components repairs to heavy trucks and equipment.
Work is performed under the supervision of a Fleet Services Supervisor. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Repairs equipment and makes service calls by diagnosing, troubleshooting, and replacing defective parts and components. Ensures safety by using proper equipment relevant to the repair and following required protocols. Installs new parts and components by welding and fabricating parts as needed.
* Performs preventative maintenance by replacing fluids and filters in equipment, measuring, adjusting, and recording test results, cleaning, and replacing components in equipment, checking and adjusting components, and ensuring equipment is in proper operating condition prior to releasing to operator. Tracks vehicle repairs through enterprise asset management system and/or department reporting protocols for scheduling, estimates, billing, and documentation purposes.
* Rebuilds and installs diesel, gasoline, and natural gas engines by disassembling, inspecting, measuring and evaluating internal and external engine parts. Verifies parts clearance and tolerance and makes adjustments as necessary.
* Interprets and applies information from technical manuals, web sites, schematics, wiring diagrams, system flows to diagnose and resolve issues. Investigates malfunctions and breakdowns by running diagnostics, checking for leaks and tears, and using appropriate equipment to diagnose problems.
* Contains and safely disposes of hazardous wastes. Repaints and labels equipment as needed. Maintains shop by cleaning and degreasing shop areas. Orders parts as needed.

A&P Mechanics play a key role in maintaining the safety and efficiency of customer aircraft. You'll troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and perform maintenance tasks while working closely with clients to find solutions.
Troubleshoot, repair, install, inspect, and maintain aircraft.
Document work per manuals and regulatory requirements.
Follow safety and Environmental Health & Safety policies.
Participate in 5S activities to maintain a clean workspace.
Operate ground support equipment as required.
Perform mechanical/electrical component removals and installations.
Provide off-site maintenance support when needed.
Assist with fueling, engine removal/installation, and component repairs
Qualifications
Valid A&P license by the FAA or Aiframe License by the FAA
Minimum 5 years of experience as A&P Mechanic.
Own basic hand tools and manage tool inventory - Tools Etched and toolbox shadowed
Willing to work unscheduled overtime, including weekends and holidays.
Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Basic PC skills.
Ability to obtain a SIDA badge (if applicable).
US Citizenship or authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship

Valid Driver License
Minimum 18 years of age

Tire & service experience
No more than 2 moving violations within the previous 3 years

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Commitment to working safely at all times; report unsafe conditions in the work area
Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times and adhere to all OSHA/EPA requirements
Assist in various maintenance department activities
Operate of mid-level mechanical tools
Work on tractor components including engines, transmissions, starters, generators, alternators and other misc. components
Diagnose and perform mechanical trailer repairs on a variety of trailers: pneumatic, live bottoms, belly dumps, flatbeds, and tanker trailers
Diagnose and perform mechanical repairs on a wide variety of company equipment
Inspect equipment for structural integrity and other potential safety and maintenance problems
Diagnose, disassemble, clean, remove, and replace defective parts; reassemble, install, and adjust to specified performance standards
Obtain parts from stock as needed
Input data into a maintenance software program
Perform the job duties of lube/tire technician and laborer as needed
Assist with service calls
Assist other maintenance and office personnel when necessary
Operate maintenance pick-up truck, forklift, and other company equipment
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required and must be worn as directed
Notify manager of updates regarding their driver's license: all citations, inspections, incidents, accidents, and near-misses
Maintain contact with manager to advise of problems or concerns
Other reasonable duties as assigned
Assist with general maintenance, clean-up, and other duties as assigned
Add, subtract, multiply and divide in whole numbers
Ability to communicate information in verbal and written form and the ability to listen to and understand information and directions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
