This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company's locations: Driftwood Golf and Ranch Club, set outside of Austin, TX.
Driftwood Golf and Ranch Club is seeking a Head Landscape Mechanic to join the Landscape Department.
The Head Landscape Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of all the landscaping equipment and machinery. This role ensures that all tools and machines operate efficiently and safely to support the landscaping team in delivering high-quality groundskeeping and landscape management services. In this role, you will be part of creating the Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow employees.
Key Responsibilities
• Equipment Maintenance: Regularly inspect, maintain, and repair landscaping equipment including mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and other power tools.
• Diagnostic and Repair Work: Diagnose mechanical issues and perform necessary repairs to ensure minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
• Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine preventative maintenance to prolong equipment lifespan and prevent unexpected breakdowns.
• Inventory Management: Monitor and manage parts inventory, order replacement parts as necessary, and ensure that all tools and machinery are properly stocked and ready for use.
• Record keeping: Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities, including dates, parts used, and any other relevant information.
• Safety Compliance: Ensure all maintenance and repair work complies with safety standards and regulations.
• Support: Provide technical support and training to landscaping team members on the proper use and care of equipment.
Qualifications
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Three (3) or more years of experience in equipment maintenance and repair, preferably in a landscaping or similar industry. This includes Diesel Engine experience.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair a variety of small engines and landscaping equipment. Excellent sense for organization.
• Certification in small engine repair or equivalent is preferred.
• Familiarity with the tools and equipment used in landscaping and groundskeeping.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Spanish speaking is a plus.

Assist in the movement of vehicles, and schedule and coordinate all out-of-service vehicles with the Fleet Manager or designee;
Assist in the maintenance of cleanliness and proper appearance of vehicle fleet, passenger shelters, benches, and immediate grounds, and all office and shop space;
Assist in the assembly and placement of benches and trash containers and installation/replacement of Bus Stop route signs as required;
Assist in the maintenance and changing out of advertising displays inside and outside of buses, on passenger shelters and benches, and on other displays as directed by the Fleet Manager or designee;
Assist in preparing new vehicles for placement into service;
Diagnose and perform maintenance, service, and repair of all equipment and components of The HOP facilities, regardless of type, as directed;
Maintain an organized and orderly work area;
Maintain vehicle maintenance records as required;
Serve as lead mechanic in the absence of the Class A and direct work flow as required.
Other Duties/Responsibilities
Assist in maintenance and proper storage of cleaning supplies and equipment, and notifying Fleet Manager of needs;

This position is responsible for troubleshooting, performing, and evaluating all service and repair activities of equipment, related tools, and vehicles in a safe, timely, and cost efficient manner; perform related work as required.

Job Duties:
- Troubleshoots mechanical systems including fuel, electrical, brakes, charging system, A/C, hydraulics, engine cooling, transmission, drive lines, engine, and smog;
- Identifies system components, determines component failure, and isolates components in a system;
- Read and understands complex mechanical schematics;
- Remove, replace, and/or repair system components as needed;
- Repair / rebuild hydraulic systems including cylinder/valves, hoses, and piping;
- Performs major and minor mechanical repairs on all company-owned equipment including brakes, suspension, engine repair/rebuild, repair mechanical systems, gears, belt drives, electrical, welding, custom fabrication, and component swap;
- Repair, replace, and/or perform preventative maintenance on engines, equipment, and tools;
- Conduct mechanical diagnostics, equipment repair, and safety inspections of various systems including brakes, suspension, electrical and hydraulic, diesel, gas, 2-cycle, and 4-cycle motors, as well as on-road and off-road equipment;
- Works with crew to maintain equipment, parts, and supply inventory;
- Works with crew to maintain the shop, tools, and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion;
- Demonstrate efficient improvement of light-duty landscape equipment (e.g.,3 wheelers, compactors, power brooms), heavy-duty landscape equipment (e.g., trenchers, skid steers, chain saws), and related tools;
- Be able to rely on manufacturer diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, the internet, and specifications to guide proper troubleshooting, repair, or replacement;
- Proficient use of hand tools, power tools, and precision-measuring and testing instruments;
- Bed able to supply reviews / equipment reports;
- Complete a weekly operational evaluation on machinery to identify potential areas needing repair;
- Determine course of action required for repair/service and establish a timeline needed to complete;
- Be able to develops a list of parts needed and source from local supplier;
- lubricate and cleans parts / equipment on a weekly basis;
- Comply with all policies, procedures, and performance goals;
- Ensure that all safety laws, policies, and practices are met;
- Ensure all work meets company quality standards;
- Maintain service logs and records of preventative maintenance for all equipment;
- Demonstrate professional understanding of hazardous substances, PPE, and OSHA compliance;
- Provide excellent service (e.g., accurate, complete, and timely) to work-site crews, and company staff in a courteous and efficient manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
On - site maintenance of our fleet in our outdoor facility (with at home repairs flexibility)
Perform preventive maintenance: oil changes, brake adjustment, repairs deemed DVIR.
Conducting diagnostic testing on fleet vehicles
Keeping detailed records of all vehicles that they service
Conduct inspections of diesel machinery and vehicles to detect signs of possible deterioration,
Work entails exerting force exceeding 100lbs occasionally, frequently lifting over 50lbs, and consistently moving objects weighing more than 20lbs, utilizing appropriate tools as necessary.
Disassemble, overhaul, rebuild, repair, recondition, replace and maintenance parts of the engine, pumps, generators, transmission, clutches, differential unions, pistons, bearings, gear and valves.
Operate company vehicles: park, move, position, test and perform road/services calls
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Must be at least 21 years of age,
Diesel Repair:Cummings and Detroit experience (Preferred),
Automotive Repair/ General Mechanic Work: 3 years (Required)
Prior transportation experience - Coach Bus/ Ground Transportation
CDL License (Preferred)
ASE Certified (Preferred)
Experience with DOT inspections (Preferred)
Must be able to maintain regular attendance in accordance with company standards
