DieselMechanic Position Summary:
This position is required to safely and accurately perform general property and vehicle maintenance & repair duties in and around the shop operations in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge and understanding basic preventative maintenance and repair techniques of Class 5 through Class 8 commercial vehicles to include tank trailer inspection and maintenance related to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations is required.
DieselMechanic Essential Functions:

This is a position for a four-year Mechanical Maintainer Apprenticeship, with the potential to continued employment as a Mechanical Maintainer after the apprenticeship is completed. This entry level maintenance position will be assigned to one of our three Steel facilities in Stark County, Ohio (Gambrinus, Harrison or Faircrest Steel plants). Employees in this position are responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and educational tasks including, but not limited to, classroom study, on the job training, and assisting journeymen in completion of mechanical maintenance tasks. Employees in this position are responsible for but not limited to the following:
Receive and execute work assignment, using instructions, drawings and sketches for diagnosis, repair, of steel mill related equipment.
Utilizing preventative/predictive maintenance techniques to maintain equipment reliability and eliminate equipment break downs.
Work in the field or shop area as required
Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and Pneumatic systems
Ability to cut, burn, weld and braze metals
Utilizes the computerized maintenance management system as necessary to aid in performing predictive, preventive and repair tasks.
Willing and able to work in high and/or confined spaces
Troubleshoots, dismantles, cleans, inspects, rebuilds, repairs, replaces, installs, assembles, adjust, aligns, and lubricates mechanical devices.
Operates overhead electric crane and mobile equipment to lift and transport materials
Operates heavy mobile equipment
Performs miscellaneous work such as filling out standard forms, lubricating equipment, rigging parts & equipment for movement or lifting, and keeping tools, equipment and work area clean and orderly.
Minimum requirements include:
The ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems in the plant and take corrective action.
Basic understanding of mechanical systems
The ability to learn quickly, follow instructions and work safely with minimal direction.
Must possess the ability to work effectively with others (giving and receiving direction) and work independently and unsupervised as required.
High School diploma or GED with one year experience in electrical maintenance and/or electrical construction or current Metallus manufacturing production employee in good standing
Preferred experience includes:
Associates degree in a technically related program such as Mechanical Engineering technology; Mechanical service technology, etc.
Familiarity with Mechanical and Hydraulic drawings or schematics
Knowledge of rigging techniques
Welding, pipefitting and Iron work.

Job Description
Receives repair orders, reviews mechanical difficulties of vehicles, diagnoses the nature of the problem, and performs necessary repairs. The T-3 level technician has basic knowledge of diesel engine diagnostics and diagnostic tools and can diagnose and complete basic repairs with supervision and direction.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Receives repair orders from supervisor and performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy in accordance with industry and factory standards.
Diagnoses cause and performs repair of any malfunction.
Communicates with parts department to obtain required parts.
Saves and tags parts if the job is under warranty or if requested. Documents work performed.
Conducts all activity with regard for personal safety, the safety of other personnel, and in accordance with all shop safety policies and practices.
Examines the vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required.
Advises shift supervisors immediately if additional work is required, if work outlined is not required, or if repairs cannot be completed within the time requested.
Road tests vehicles to confirm quality of repair work when required or refers to the supervisor as appropriate.
Monitors and assists with the work of apprentice Truck Technicians as assigned.
Keeps informed of factory technical bulletins. Attends company-sponsored training sessions. Stays aware of technical developments affecting the performance of duties.
Keeps shop area neat and clean. Stands accountable for all company-owned tools at all times.
Understands and follows all federal, state, and local regulations such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes and materials.

Basic knowledge of brakes, braking systems, transmissions, and drivelines.
