    Summary/Objective: The Mechanic is responsible for the proper repair and maintenance of all company vehicles and equipment and for the safe and proper care of equipment assigned to the mechanic. Essential Functions: Maintain and repair automotive vehicles (such as trucks, tractor-trailers, pickups, cars, heavy equipment, and mounted equipment such as mixers and hydraulic systems) and stationary equipment (such as air compressors, welding equipment, and miscellaneous equipment) to company standards; recognize failure symptoms, trouble shoot, inspect, repair or replace, reassemble and test. Coordinate with Manager to ensure the proper parts and supplies are available when needed. Recognize potential problems before they occur and perform or order the necessary repair work. Coordinate with the Manager and other mechanics to get the work done. Complete all required paperwork accurately. Supervise the Mechanic's Helper ensuring that he/she performs all work as required and follows all company policies and procedures. Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner at ALL times. Wear all required safety equipment. Follow all safety guidelines and notify the Manager or Safety immediately of any current or potential safety issues. Perform all required inspections. Follow all environmental regulations. Dispose of chemicals, trash, etc. in designated areas. Recycle when required. Notify the Manager immediately of any current or potential environmental problems. Keep the shop area and all tools, shop vehicles, and equipment neat, clean, and in good repair. Clean work area at the end of every work shift. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university. Five years related experience with three years' experience as a master mechanic on a variety of gasoline and diesel equipment; some lead mechanic experience. Must be able to report to work during Adverse Weather conditions. Must have a good driving record and have or be able to obtain a class B Commercial Driver's License with a passenger endorsement. Must be able to meet the Department of Transportation's physical requirements and maintain a valid DOT card. Strong analytical/diagnostic skills. Certification in servicing motor vehicle A/C in accordance with Section 609 of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. Certification in performing both Safety and Emission Inspections in accordance with the State of NC Division of Motor Vehicle Regulations. Proficiency in the use of mechanical tools and equipment such as steam cleaner, jumper cables, battery booster, hydraulic jack, hoist, creeper, diagnostic and repair equipment, tune-up machine, hydraulic press, vacuum pump, leak detector, electrical circuitry tester, metal machine lathe, A/C recovery machine, arbor press, forklift, welder, cutting torch, valve grinder, and various vehicles. Proficiency with computers is necessary. An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the above stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications. Working Conditions: The primary work environment is the garage facility. Individual must be constantly aware of the hazards associated with the garage environment. Specifics of the garage environment include vehicles being moved in confined areas, pits, grease spills, fumes, high noise levels, toxic chemicals, and repair equipment being used. Individual will be exposed to toxic and non-toxic cleaning and wax stripping fluids, fuels, glues, lubricants, floor cleaning machine, large stationary bus washer, steam cleaning machines, and other normal garage equipment and tools. Physical stamina is significant; requires sustained bending and reaching positions at uncomfortable angles. The incumbent may also have to endure brief periods of lifting or carrying heavy objects, sometimes up at least one flight of stairs. Physical Requirements: Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
