Summary/Objective: The Mechanic is responsible for the proper repair and maintenance of all company vehicles and equipment and for the safe and proper care of equipment assigned to the mechanic. Essential Functions: Maintain and repair automotive vehicles (such as trucks, tractor-trailers, pickups, cars, heavy equipment, and mounted equipment such as mixers and hydraulic systems) and stationary equipment (such as air compressors, welding equipment, and miscellaneous equipment) to company standards; recognize failure symptoms, trouble shoot, inspect, repair or replace, reassemble and test. Coordinate with Manager to ensure the proper parts and supplies are available when needed. Recognize potential problems before they occur and perform or order the necessary repair work. Coordinate with the Manager and other mechanics to get the work done. Complete all required paperwork accurately. Supervise the Mechanic's Helper ensuring that he/she performs all work as required and follows all company policies and procedures. Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner at ALL times. Wear all required safety equipment. Follow all safety guidelines and notify the Manager or Safety immediately of any current or potential safety issues. Perform all required inspections. Follow all environmental regulations. Dispose of chemicals, trash, etc. in designated areas. Recycle when required. Notify the Manager immediately of any current or potential environmental problems. Keep the shop area and all tools, shop vehicles, and equipment neat, clean, and in good repair. Clean work area at the end of every work shift. Maintain security of all company equipment and tools at all times. Notify the Manager of any problems. Drive shop vehicle to various plant sites, road calls or other sites of broken equipment. 3rd Shift 4 day/10 Hour Day - $2.00 Shift Differential Monday to Thursday 10:00pm- 8:30 Am The Mechanic I provides ongoing service, preventive maintenance work and minor repairs on vehicles, buses, machinery, and equipment. The Mechanic I reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor and/or the lead mechanic. This position reports to a Maintenance Supervisor. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs preventive maintenance services and minor repair work on passenger, ADA and light transit vans. Performs multi-point inspections, changing oil, checking and adding fluids, changing air, fuel and oil filters, changing hoses, replacing spark plugs, rotating tires, mounting and balancing wheels, replacing shocks, replacing light bulbs, replacing windshield wiper blades, checking and replacing serpentine belts, lubricating chassis, checking and servicing brakes, servicing transmissions and differentials, testing and replacing batteries. Engages in increasingly more complex maintenance and repair work as experience and skills allow. Inspects for and reports on vehicle damage such as torn seats, fluid leaks, dents, scratches, etc. Provides assistance to Mechanics II/III on more complex repairs. Provides and assist with road calls for disabled vehicles. Maintains communications and good rapport with Maintenance and Operations staff. Fully knowledgeable of and maintains compliance with all Shop Safety and OSHA rules and regulations.
