Under the supervision of the Shop Supervisor and Management Team of Public Works, the auto gas/diesel mechanic will perform, a full range of skilled mechanical maintenance, diagnostic, inspection, and repair duties on Noli School Buses, Heavy Equipment, Tribal Administration's Company vehicles. DUTIES AND RESPONISBILITIES Although other duties may be assigned, the essential duties include the following:
•Perform routine vehicle maintenance and preventive care for all Noli School Buses, Tribal company vehicles and heavy equipment in a timely matter.
•Independently inspects and performs routine servicing of busses, light vehicles and heavy equipment, to include lubrication, oil changes, replacement of worn parts, valve adjustments, engine tune-ups, compression tests, emission control system tests and adjustments, and hydraulic & air brake adjustments and repairs.
•Overhauls and repairs gas and diesel engines and transmissions to include the replacement of valves, pistons, piston rings, main bearings and crank shafts.
•Performs diagnosis and troubleshooting of vehicles mechanic and electrical problems; and determines extent of repairs, and makes repairs as needed. Coordinates the repair of heavy equipment performed by outside garages.
•Maintain proper maintenance logs to include detail report, date and mileage of each school bus which includes inspection, maintenance, lubrication, and all repairs performed for each vehicle under your control.
•Orders parts and maintains vehicle parts inventory, fabricates and modifies brackets, braces and other vehicle parts and equipment: uses various welding equipment and cutting tools applying a variety of techniques to construct, repair or modify parts and equipment.
•Safely operates lifts or hoists, computerized diagnostic scanners, electrical test equipment, and hand and power tools as required. Keeps tools, equipment and garage area neat. Corrects unsafe conditions in the work area and reports any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
• Perform work in adherence to safe work practice and procedures and in compliance with applicable standards and specifications, including to perform work in accordance with and maintain equipment as required by the California Highway Patrol and Vehicle Code: remain current on all laws pertaining to safe maintenance and repair of school buses.
• Services, repairs and maintains small gasoline engines, pumps, and miscellaneous equipment and tools.
• Obtain repair cost estimates
• Performs field work on mobile and stationary generators.
EDUCATION
• High School Diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE
• 4 years' experience as a mechanic, including experience working with school buses, gas and diesel engines, and hydraulic & air brake systems
• Good written and verbal skills, good problem-solving skills, good record keeping skills. Computer skills a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
