What You'll Be Doing:
• Performs inspection, diagnosis and repair of assigned vehicles and equipment and preventative maintenance such as oil changes and greasing of trucks.
• Conducts safety checks on trucks.
• Maintains a clear line of communication to the Branch Manager and Regional Fleet Staff and other staff in the maintenance department.
• Keeps the Hydrovac Fleet operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
• Occasionally may perform service calls for emergency breakdowns.
• Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA Standards and performs all work in accordance with established procedures.
What We're Looking For:
• Education: High School Diploma.
• Licensed Heavy Duty Technician.
• Driver's License required; Class B CDL license is preferred.
• Demands include frequent sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting, and reaching. Employees must also crawl under vehicles, climb ladders, work in tight spaces, stand or kneel on cement floors, and regularly lift or move heavy objects such as tires, rims, and brake drums.
• Regularly required to lift or move objects weighing 25 to 50 lbs, with moderate grasping, lifting, pushing, and pulling of these objects.
• Work may require more than 40 hours per week.
What You'll Need For Success:
• Some knowledge with electronic diagnostics.
• Experience with Peterbilt and Western Star chassis a plus.
• Experience with troubleshooting Hydrovac equipment a plus.
• Knowledge of DOT compliance, laws, rules, regulations, and safety is helpful.

What Does a Diesel Truck & Trailer Mechanic Do At CRST?
Diesel Truck & Trailer Mechanics support the maintenance of our Class 8 trucks and trailers and ensure that safety remains at the core of our work to maximize the quality of our business. The ideal candidate must comprehensively understand how to maintain and repair Class 8 equipment, diagnose technical issues properly and efficiently, and perform equipment reviews. Work with one of the industry's youngest fleets, including most Cascadia Freightliners with Detroit Engines.

The contractor will be responsible for the proper repair and maintenance for a large fleet of forklifts and related equipment of various brands (predominately Raymond). The forklift fleet consists of a variety of electric, gas-, and diesel-powered units designed for interior and exterior building use. The contractor shall be responsible for maintaining a comprehensive maintenance schedule, obtaining approval for the schedule from appropriate government focal points, and adhering to the schedule in order to ensure all forklift units are mechanically ready for use and safe to operate. The contractor shall manage a spare parts inventory and make all levels of repairs when necessary. The contractor will also be responsible for repairing and maintaining pallet jacks and carts.
Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities
Schedules, prioritizes, inspects, and repairs forklifts, pallet jacks, and carts
Determines, within prescribed value range, when a major component/ assembly is to be repaired, rebuilt, replaced or discarded
Responsible for assisting with the purchasing of parts and services
Required to maintain fleet and training vehicles; and prepares written estimates on cost and labor time for corrective repairs.
Interacts with customers to keep them informed of status of vehicles, repairs needed, etc.
Based on assignment, independently performs corrective maintenance and repairs to the fleet. Informs government focal point if a task cannot be safely performed alone.
Inspects, diagnoses and isolates vehicle and equipment malfunctions; troubleshoots, traces and locates defects and/or causes of mechanical problems to determine type and extent of necessary repairs.
Repairs all assigned forklifts and equipment to ensure they are safe and dependable.
Inspects and tests equipment for mechanical defects, and replaces worn parts.
Removes, replaces, adjusts, or cleans defective parts or components
Perform oil changes, check fluids, diagnose tread wear, charge and repair batteries and trouble-shoot problems.
Inspects/replaces hydraulic lines/hoses as needed.
Ensure braking and electrical systems are optimal.
Utilizes appropriate techniques and procedures in accordance with manufacturer's specification
Identifies necessary parts, equipment and supplies needed to complete repair or preventative check.
Road tests vehicles during and occasionally upon completion of maintenance/repair work.
Responds to emails and telephone calls.
Performs other related duties as required or as directed by Supervisor regarding forklift and equipment maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of the operating systems used in forklifts and associated hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
Extensive knowledge of the practices and tools used in the maintenance and diagnostics of forklifts and equipment.
Considerable knowledge of computer, electrical, transistorized and other non-mechanical systems and how they tie-in with and affect the operation of mechanical systems.
Considerable knowledge of the full range of tools, equipment, test procedures and practices used in the repair and preventative maintenance of forklifts.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Experience diagnosing complex mechanical and related malfunctions.
Expertise in reading technical manuals, references and specifications and service and recall bulletins.
Written communication skills necessary to write routine correspondences, maintenance logs and order forms.
Expertise in how to operate a forklift, power tools, wrenches, diagnostic equipment, and jacks.
Working knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Access and Microsoft Office Suite.
Adaptability to prioritize and schedule multiple work requirements.
Flexibility in work schedule.
Representational skills necessary to interact with outside vendors.
Working knowledge of diesel, gas, and electric mechanics.
Experience welding simple parts.
Work Environment
The work is usually performed inside on concrete surfaces where there is exposure to drafts, noise, and fumes from vehicles. Forklift technician - Senior occasionally perform work outside under adverse weather conditions. They are continually exposed to dirt, dust, and grease, and to the potential for burns, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, cuts, and strains. To reduce dangers and irritations from these conditions, they follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as safety shoes and glasses, and respirators.

Experience:
Ten (10) years of experience in the problem diagnosis, repair and maintenance of a wide variety of forklift maintenance.

High school Diploma or GED equivalent.
Special Certifications:
Certified in the safe operation of forklifts by the Sponsor within 30-days of commencing work and every 24-months as required.
Certified maintenance on Raymond brand forklifts.
Other pertinent forklift maintenance certifications.
