Job Description
Heavy equipment mechanics are trained mechanics with knowledge of transmissions, electrical and hydraulic systems. To be a mechanic for Commonwealth Equipment, a candidate must possess a strong work ethic and an ability to handle unexpected situations. Daily responsibilities include diagnosing mechanical problems, repairing equipment, and checking and scheduling work with the Service Coordinator. Mechanics regularly use power tools, machine tools, welding tools, and more.
Heavy equipment mechanics perform preventative maintenance on equipment. This includes routine maintenance, checking and changing belts, motors, electrical systems, and pumps to prevent damage from occurring. If damage does occur, the mechanic must diagnose the problem and make the appropriate repairs. Following the repairs, mechanics must execute a test run to verify that the machine is operating smoothly with no mechanical issues.
At Commonwealth Equipment, engineers are also called upon to perform inspections on equipment. When performing these inspections, the mechanic's responsibilities are to lubricate, test, and check for severity of wear of parts.
During all phases of maintenance, inspection or repair of equipment, mechanics carefully document the work done, time spent on task, and materials used in order to properly invoice customers. Mechanics will read, write and process work orders, in addition to filling out comprehensive and accurate paperwork whenever any work is performed on a machine.
Qualifications
Heavy equipment repair and maintenance: 4 years (Preferred)
Hydraulics: 4 years (Preferred)
Diesel engines: 4 years (Preferred)
Welding experience: 4 years (Preferred)
Driver’s License: Valid

Major Responsibilities:

Job Description
Heavy equipment mechanics are trained mechanics with knowledge of transmissions, electrical and hydraulic systems. To be a mechanic for Commonwealth Equipment, a candidate must possess a strong work ethic and an ability to handle unexpected situations at a moment's notice. They diagnose mechanical problems, repair equipment, and check and schedule work with the Service Coordinator daily.
Mechanics perform preventative maintenance on equipment including routine maintenance, checking and changing belts, motors, electrical systems, and pumps in order to prevent damage from occurring. If damage does occur, the mechanic also diagnoses the problem and makes appropriate repairs on the machine. To determine whether a machine is properly repaired, mechanics execute a test run to verify the machine is operating smoothly and has no mechanical issues.
Engineers are also called upon to perform inspections on equipment. When performing these inspections, mechanics lubricate and test parts while also checking for severity of wear. In order to perform these and all other duties, the mechanic must use power tools, machine tools, welding tools, and more. During all phases of maintenance, inspection or repair of equipment, mechanics carefully document the work done, time spent on task, and materials used in order to properly invoice customers. Mechanics read, write and process work orders and complete paperwork accurately and completely whenever any work is performed on a machine.

What you'll do on a typical day:
Schedule and supervise shop personnel
Order parts and manage vendors
Ensure technicians receive the required training
Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on all types of class 7 and 8 diesel equipment, forklifts and trailing equipment in compliance with the manufacturer's and company's schedules
Safely access any area of the equipment or vehicle to perform necessary maintenance, including inspecting and performing work in, on or under parts of vehicles and trailers
Apply knowledge of and work by the Department of Transportation (DOT), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Interstate Authority and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA); follow all rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and lead your team to do the same
Repair or rebuild all or parts of various equipment systems
Move trailers throughout the property
Operate a hostler in all types of weather; safely walk and stand for extended periods
Lead Technicians are required to:
Lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights frequently up to 50 lbs. And occasionally greater than 75 lbs.
Safely walk and stand for extended periods on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery, including working outdoors in inclement weather
Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel

RESPONSIBILITIES for Diesel Technicians
Diesel Technicians performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair on diesel Trucks or equipment.
Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
Diesel Technician will documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician.
Diesel Technician will participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
Supervises work of any apprentice diesel technicians as assigned.
Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
Ensures that customers' vehicles are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
Keeps shop area neat and clean for your safety and safety of other diesel technicians.
Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
Qualifications

Job Duties
Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair Crown and all other makes of lift trucks.
Perform all assigned planned maintenance on customer lift trucks.
Maintain a service van and its inventory.
Process paperwork after completion of each job.
Minimum Qualifications
Less than 2 years related experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to safely operate lift trucks.
Preferred Qualifications
Good mechanical and electrical aptitudes, knowledge of electrical/electronic systems and hydraulics and internal combustion engines, and the ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics.
Good written/verbal communication and customer care skills.
Technical degree, previous lift truck repair, welding experience, and knowledge of various types of testing equipment preferred.
Familiar with tools and equipment such as common hand tools, electrical/air tools, torch, arc welder and various types of testing equipment.
Industry related training is preferred
Ability to read and understand service manuals, plan, and follow-through
