Job Purpose
As a Mechanic C, you are an entry level technician and will assume a role of familiarizing yourself with product knowledge and standards of quality within the branch. Mechanic C's will learn the standard operating procedures at the branch, region, and national level to grow their career to higher leveled mechanics. The primary focus of a Herc Rentals Mechanic C is to utilize their mechanical training to contribute to fleet maintenance operations needed to keep Herc Rentals equipment on the rental “ready line”. This goal can be achieved safely and professionally through an effective preventative and corrective maintenance program
What you will do...
Follow a consistent schedule of performing preventative maintenance of all Herc owned fleet at your branch
Operate and test equipment to ensure it passes Herc Rentals quality and efficiency standards
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on all Herc fleet equipment and trucks under direct supervision
Diagnose small tools and light rental equipment with assistance from senior mechanics
Perform major repairs to maintain fleet equipment using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and measuring instruments under direct supervision
Conduct oil changes, lubrication of equipment, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements and assorted services
Enter work orders and complete part ordering via fleet management system
Assist in reconditioning and replacing assorted parts of the heavy equipment
Learn what is covered and not covered by warranties
Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner
Produce timely and detailed service reports and repair logs
Follow all company's filed procedures and protocols
Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
Accredited education in heavy equipment repair or 1 year of experience in lieu of
Ownership of sufficient selection of hand and air/electric tools to complete most repairs and services preferred
Ability to safely lift up to 50 LBs
Skills
Some knowledge in electrical and hydraulic systems and willing to learn how to read schematics
Ability to operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, hydraulics, pumps and assorted tools and equipment
Computer skills to support entering information into systems
Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently
Ability to drive/operate multiple types of vehicles and equipment
Ability to follow up with customers in a timely manner

Qualifications you'll bring as a Mechanic I:
Have High School Diploma or GED. Tech School classes or equivalent training preferred.
Possess a Valid Class C Drivers License.
Have 2 years experience in preventative maintenance, minor repairs on tractor and trailers, some electrical diagnostics, light repairs, dismounting and mounting tire machine, use of tire bars, and use of tire gun.
Stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, grasp and reach above the head for extended periods of time.
This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The House Mechanic will perform a wide variety of duties and tasks associated with the mechanical (millwright) discipline. Responsibilities
What does a Heavy-Duty Commercial Truck Technician Do?
Diagnose and repair Diesel/Heavy-Duty vehicles.
Deliver a world-class buying experience by utilizing modern technology to communicate with the parts department and advisors.
Become a repair expert to help assist other technicians with difficult problems - we are looking for team players.
Champion the Heavy-Duty repair department to best serve our customers.
Be the “go-to” person for all Heavy-Duty questions
Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with the Parts Department, Advisors, Service Manager and General Manager. in fulfilling the mission, vision, and strategic plan of the organization.
Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of Diesel/Heavy-Duty vehicles.
Prioritize and plan work-flow to meet customer needs and department demands
Coordinate with Parts Department to ensure parts availability to complete repairs.
Road test vehicles to verify problems and again to inspect repair results
Complete service and repair assignments correctly to pass quality inspection - “fix it right the first time”
Recommend additional services that vehicle will need according to Ford standards.
Ability to effectively communicate with advisors to help explain completed repairs to a customer
Must be willing to use personal device to take photos and/or videos of broken/worn parts. Photos/Videos are transferred within 3rd party app, no personal information is shared with customer - only the photos and videos uploaded.

Must have a valid driver's license

Proficiency in use of common mechanic shop tools including computerized equipment.
Ability to bend, move, lift and physically perform duties in the scope of this position.

The House Mechanic will perform a wide variety of duties and tasks associated with the mechanical (millwright) discipline. Individuals will work closely with Production gaining a detailed understanding of operating parameters to ensure that Maintenance interventions are both appropriate and effective.
Perform a variety of joining and fabrication activities. To that extent, individuals will weld, cut, braze, and solder a variety of materials. This includes welding carbon steel using the SMAW and GMAW processes and welding stainless steel metals using the SMAW process.
Job Requirements:
2-year technical degree (such as Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Design, Machinist & Toolmaker, or related degree) OR must have fully completed a state-approved millwright apprenticeship (non-ACS). With a minimum of 2 years of full-time industrial millwright experience.
OR
A High School degree or diploma although a GED certificate is acceptable and a minimum of 5 consecutive years of full-time industrial millwright experience.
In addition to:
Candidates will be required to take a millwright, welding and basic skills testing
Candidates will be required to submit to and successfully pass a Safety Screen that evaluates their ability to safely execute the duties and tasks defined for this position.

This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role.
