As a Team Partner in the Maintenance Department, you will be responsible for carrying out all corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance on fleet vehicles to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation. In addition, you will be responsible for maintaining fleet vehicles in a safe working condition meeting DOT or other regulatory requirements. At UniFirst we have a standard Monday - Friday work week with periodic and weekend overtime. We have an immediate opening and provide on the job training.

What you'll be doing:
Ensure all assigned vehicles are properly registered and compliant with current plates, inspections, and documentation.
Complete all scheduled preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and maintain fleet performance.

Qualifications
What we're looking for:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Must be at least 21 years old.
Associate's degree from an accredited technical school or equivalent experience preferred.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
Must meet all DOT regulatory requirements.
CDL license is a strong plus, preferred for performing road tests and servicing Class A vehicles
Strong diagnostic skills with GM drivability; diesel experience is a plus.
Willingness to work overtime and perform occasional road calls.
3 - 5 years of hands-on experience with medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair, including: Preventative Maintenance, tire & wheel service, air & hydraulic brake systems, drivetrain and suspension, electrical and A/C systems computerized diagnostics.
Proficiency with diagnostic software and basic computer skills
Ability to lift up to 80 lbs. safely

Position Summary:
Performs mechanical repair on all school district owned support vehicles, school buses, and motorized mobile equipment. Essential Duties:
Inspects motorized equipment, such as automobiles, school buses, mowers, tractors.
Diagnoses and determines extent of necessary repairs.
Overhauls, repairs and adjusts engines, transmissions, differentials and clutches.
Inspects, cleans, repairs and replaces components of gas, diesel, including carburetors, fuel pumps, strainers, fuel lines, tanks and gauges.
Repairs and replaces such components as alternators, distributors, relays, lights and switches.
Adjusts and replaces brakes.
Overhauls hydraulic, power steering, booster and vacuum systems.
Removes and installs; radiators, water pumps, hoses and cooling fans.
Operates motorized equipment in connection with repair and servicing.
Records repairs on shop work orders.
Performs preventive and special interest maintenance as prescribed by manufactures specifications or garage services operating instructions.
Adheres to all established safety policies and standards to include the identification, use, and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous wastes.
Reports to supervisor as needed any problems encountered in the assigned work and the progress in completing work assignments.
Promotes the overall effectiveness of the organization by performing tasks and sharing responsibilities of other members of the Department during peak periods or when there is an overload of duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):
Requires reading, writing, and math skills normally obtained through the completion of a HS Diploma or a GED.
Five (5) years of journey level working experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive and/or school buses and other power-driven equipment diesel engines. Specialized training in auto mechanics and/or vocational training in auto mechanics may be substituted for work experience.
Knowledge of the use of basic automotive mechanical tools and equipment, such as tire changing and vehicle lubrication equipment.
Possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record as defined by the district's insurance carrier.
Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment employed in the rebuilding, repair and adjustment of motorized equipment.
Knowledge of fuel, ignition, electrical and cooling systems and their diagnosis, repair and adjustment.
Operation and care of internal combustion engines.
Knowledge of chassis, parts and replacements.
Knowledge provisions outlined in the Department of Transportation CFR 49, part 393 applying to the safe operation of vehicles and school buses on the highway.
Appropriate automotive industry safety standards, precautions and procedures associated with a vehicle fleet maintenance operation.
Basic computer skills.
Incumbent must be able to obtain an appropriate commercial driver's license (CDL) within 90 days of employment.
Knowledge of proper safety practices, procedures and equipment applicable to mechanical work being performed.
Knowledge of mechanical aptitude, ability to read and understand vehicle service and lubrication charts.
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities):
High School diploma or GED.
Incumbent to be certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in one or all three of the listed certifications: Automobile (MA) Technician, Medium/Heavy Truck (MT) Technician, and School Bus (SB) Technician.

Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.

Responsibilities
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair our customers Commercial Tractors and Trailers
Writing detailed work orders - working Mobile Road Calls and/or In Yard.
Provide quality customer service
Inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing semi-truck and trailer bodies, systems, and components
Performing preventative maintenance measures on fleet semi-trucks and trailers
Maintaining hubs and axles and adjusting or replacing them when required
Inspecting, servicing, and replacing tractor and trailer parts, including tires
Checking and repairing the brake, electrical, and hydraulic system
Testing all systems and equipment for performance issues
Ensuring that trailers meet the U.S. Department of Transportation's road safety requirements.
Compiling inspection reports, documenting repairs, and reporting all findings to management.
Responding as soon as possible to client queries.
Qualifications

Knowledge - High School Diploma or GED required with high school auto mechanics program or graduation from a recognized diesel mechanics school. Must possess three years of diesel and gasoline engine repair experience; trouble shoot automotive and bus electrical systems; possess standard mechanical hand tools and be experienced in the use of such tools to perform mechanical work.
Mental Effort - Must be able to read and understand maintenance manuals, prepare work cards, and orders for vehicle repairs.
License - Must be licensed in the state of Oklahoma. Must have a Class A or Class B CDL with passenger endorsement. Must have CNG certification or obtain one within 6 months. Forklift license preferred. Must have received no moving violations within the last 3 years and have no DUI/DWI convictions.
Physical - Extensive walking, standing, bending, twisting and stooping at least 90% of the time; lifting maximum of 70 - 100 lbs., and lifting parts and materials overhead. Requires ability to withstand exposure to negative surroundings such as uncomfortable weather conditions, dust, engine fumes, toxic chemicals, and extreme noise levels. Requires ability to perform hand-over-hand and push-pull method of steering vehicles and be able to grip a steering wheel. Must be able to crawl or stoop into tight areas and lay horizontal under vehicle. Must be able to climb on a ladder or other equipment to heights such as building roofs at MTTA facilities.

Assisting other mechanics as needed and completing special projects for the shop supervisor .

QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience/Education/Skill
Ability to perform all A, B, C and D mechanic services.
Ability to perform all outside service interval items.
Ability to perform minor repairs and complete a brake job.
Ability to do minor electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
Ability to perform services and repairs with quality and in a timely manner.
Ability to perform PM services.
Class B CDL with air brakes (Preferred)
Able to perform all tasks in a safe and timely manner.
Complete understanding and operation of mixer controls.
Good safety and driving record
Willingness to work nights, overtime and weekends as required.
Excellent verbal, written and comprehension communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude that fosters effective relationships
Ability to wear a respirator and perform work.

JOB SUMMARY: Inspects, repairs, and services all MTTA vehicular equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Repairs and replaces diesel, gasoline, and/or CNG engine accessories as may be required.
2. Repairs and replaces bus and automotive body accessories (doors, engines, electrical units, glass, windshield wipers, seats, wheelchair lifts, etc.).
3. Rebuilds engine parts and other bus parts such as brakes, alternators, differentials, etc.
4. Repairs all MTTA vehicles (gas, diesel, and CNG) including repairs to air conditioners, motors, transmissions, generators, starters, etc.
5. Makes road calls as needed for various issues (i.e., breakdown, farebox, biohazard, etc.).
6. Trouble shoots vehicular problems including electrical systems, engines, etc.
7. Assumes additional responsibilities as required.
8. Fuel buses and other MTTA vehicles.
9. Must report to work on a regular and timely basis.
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge
- High School Diploma or GED required with high school auto mechanics program or graduation from a recognized diesel mechanics school. Must possess three years of diesel and gasoline engine repair experience; trouble shoot automotive and bus electrical systems; possess standard mechanical hand tools and be experienced in the use of such tools to perform mechanical work.
Mental Effort
- Must be able to read and understand maintenance manuals, prepare work cards, and orders for vehicle repairs.
License
- Must be licensed in the state of Oklahoma. Must have a Class A or Class B CDL with passenger endorsement. Must have CNG certification or obtain one within 6 months. Forklift license preferred. Must have received no moving violations within the last 3 years and have no DUI/DWI convictions.
Physical

Extensive walking, standing, bending, twisting and stooping at least 90% of the time; lifting maximum of 70 - 100 lbs., and lifting parts and materials overhead. Requires ability to withstand exposure to negative surroundings such as uncomfortable weather conditions, dust, engine fumes, toxic chemicals, and extreme noise levels. Requires ability to perform hand-over-hand and push-pull method of steering vehicles and be able to grip a steering wheel. Must be able to crawl or stoop into tight areas and lay horizontal under vehicle. Must be able to climb on a ladder or other equipment to heights such as building roofs at MTTA facilities.
Audible/Visual Demands
- Requires ability to hear directions given, distinguish vehicular problems associated with trouble shooting repairs, and visually perform essential functions for satisfactory job performance.
Miscellaneous
