Diagnose and repair drivability issues using laptop data-link computer software, electrical circuits, short and open circuits, modern serial data, and multiplexing circuitry. • Installs and removes in-vehicle equipment, such as programmable emergency communication radios, consoles, data equipment, laptop computers, sirens, and emergency lighting. • Tests, inspects, and certifies high-pressure compressed natural gas (CNG) on vehicle fueling systems. • Modifies, fabricates, and repairs using oxyacetylene, plasma cutting, and MIG/TIG welding equipment. • Tests electrical supply for proper and adequate wiring to meet power requirements; designs and installs electrical power distribution systems. • Maintains a variety of records and reports, including Utah State Inspections, Salt Lake County Emissions, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and Fleet Management Information System. • Drives vehicles in and out of shop bays for maintenance. May drive vehicles to road test and diagnose issues. The work involves exposure to grease, dirt, dust, fumes, chemicals, smoke, and/or loud noises, as well as periodic exposure to extreme weather conditions.
