These surveys ensure that all state licensed, and federally certified health care facilities meet the established state and/or federal requirements and patients and residents receive safe, quality health care. Field Operations staff also ensure the safety of residents in health care facilities when emergencies such as natural disasters occur. The Work You Will Do: The primary function of the Public Health Nutrition Consultant is to conduct inspections utilizing an established survey process. The survey process includes evaluation of health care facilities for state licensure and federal certification requirements for participation under Medicare/Medicaid. The incumbent will document findings and complete written reports of survey findings. The incumbent may be required to perform surveys as an individual, team member or team leader. As assigned by management, this position is required to successfully complete the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test within the first 12 months of employment as required by Sections 1819(g)(2)(c)(ii) of the Social Security Act, as amended, and Article IV(B) of the Agreement pursuant to Section 1864 of the Social Security Act. In accordance with 400.275, F.S., each member of a nursing home survey team who is a health professional licensed under part X of Chapter 468 of the Florida Statutes shall earn not less than 50 percent of required continuing education credits in geriatric care. This position has been identified as mission essential. The incumbent in this position may be required to work during the weekend or on holidays. In addition, mission essential personnel will be required to work during disasters, to include but not limited to, work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency work may involve the incumbent to work in another county or staffing location to assist other State Agencies with emergency work.     Working Title: PUBLIC HEALTH NUTRITIONIST - 64002754 Pay Plan: Career Service 64002754 Salary: $2111.08 Bi-weekly Total Compensation Estimator Tool Your Specific Responsibilities: * Performs nutritional assessments on prenatal, postpartum, breastfeeding women, infants and children from birth to five years of age. * Provides evidence-based nutrition counseling to prenatal, postpartum, breastfeeding women, infants and children from birth to five years of age. * Determines nutritional risk factors and eligibility for potential clients in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program. * Performs anthropometrics (heights and weights) and hematological testing as needed on Women, Infants and Children. * Accurately documents assessments, care plans, notes and enters correctly into the electronic medical record. * Promotes WIC though participation in community outreach events. * Assists with reports. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Entry level Dietitian/Nutritionist skills such as knowledge of evidence-based nutrition principles, nutritional assessment, nutritional counseling, nutrition education, goal setting in specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timed (SMART) client-centered, and nutrition documentation in narrative and Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan (SOAP) format * Critical thinking, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills * Strong interpersonal and communication skills * Customer service skills * Knowledge of computer for data entry, Microsoft Office software, electronic medical record Qualifications: * Requires, at a minimum, a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with the major course of study in nutritional science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition or dietetics in accordance with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Association and Florida Chapter 468. * Requires a current/active license, in good standing, as a Dietitian or Nutritionist in the State of Florida issued by the Division of Medical Quality Assurance. * Requires travel in various clinic locations and other community partners in Brevard County throughout the day. * Must be willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours in the event of an emergency. This includes emergency duties including, but not limited to, response to threats involving any disaster, man-made or natural. Preferred - * Prefer previous nutrition-related work experience. * Prefer experience working in WIC. * Prefer the ability to fluently read, write, and speak both English and Spanish or Creole.
