How will you make a difference?
The Dietary Aide is responsible for the following: assisting with preparing the salad bar, maintaining an adequate supply of beverages, ensuring the cafeteria and dining room remain clean at all times, assisting in the preparation and delivery of patient meals and room supplies, operating the dish machine, assisting the cook as required and stocking kitchen necessities on each floor as required.
Comply with established guidelines for sanitation and safety.
Obtain the tray count by unit for each breakfast, lunch and dinner meal. Assist the cook in preparing each meal tray.
Set up the salad bar and prepare vegetables, salads and other salad bar items in a neat and orderly fashion.
Set up dessert bar.
Ensure the salad bar displays an attractive and tasteful appearance.
Wash dishes and maintain the dish room area in a clean and orderly fashion.
Utilize portion control guidelines when preparing food.
Maintain cleanliness of the dining room and food preparation area at all times.

Fills and sets up pot sink according to pot washing procedure. Washes, rinses, and sanitizes all pots. Allows pots to air dry.
Cleaning, washing, and sanitizing of equipment will include, but not limited to, dishwasher, food carts, food prep equipment, refrigerator, freezer, sinks, and work tables.
Maintains clean, neat, and orderly work areas.
Prepares nourishments and snacks according to established procedures and delivers to nurses station.

Requirements:
The Dietary Aide assists in the preparation, delivery, and service of meals to residents according to individualized dietary orders and facility menus. This role ensures that residents receive nutritious meals safely while maintaining a clean, sanitary, and welcoming dining environment.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in preparing meals according to the facility's menu and specific dietary orders (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, mechanical soft).
Set up and deliver meal trays to resident rooms or dining areas.
Monitor resident preferences and special needs, reporting any concerns to the Dietary Manager or nursing staff.
Assist residents with meal service when needed, including feeding support for those requiring assistance.
Maintain proper food storage and rotation practices.

Qualifications

Your contributions are:
Assures resident meals are ready and properly served by: Preparing cold cart according to daily count
Distinguish and serve the different dietary requirements of the meal and beverage according to the resident meal tickets, assure accuracy and appropriateness of meal including food texture, fluid consistency of beverage, appearance, portion control, taste and temperature. Able to make appropriate substitutions according to meal satisfaction standards.
Prepare “always available menu” as needed and ensure compliance.
Maintain the proper serving utensils to assure portion control.
Remove soiled patient trays. Assure sanitation of meal carts and food service areas.
Maintain Pantry area: Perform first in, first out of stock items. Accurately cover, label and date all food items. Ensure all outdated items are discarded. Accurately document food temperatures. Ensure the pantry is appropriately stocked.
Maintain the sanitation procedures and protocols by handwashing and food handling techniques. Clean workstation and equipment after use. Follow all other aspects of proper sanitation using SDS.
Maintain courteous, considerate, cooperative, and accurate communication with facility personnel, patients, and families.
Other duties as assigned, such as assisting kitchen staff or nursing staff to ensure meal service is timely, and residents have received the proper meal and meal type.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
Requires mobility to stand and walk extensively during meal preparation and service. Lifting, carrying trays and boxes, up to 25lbs. Push/Pull Food Hot Boxes up to 50lbs. Bend, stoop for access to carts, food, trays, and other kitchen equipment. Manual dexterity for the use of kitchen utensils and tools. Visuals for reading menus, labels, and directions. Hearing to respond to verbal communications. Taste and Smell to assess food quality, freshness, and adherence to dietary requirements. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures.
Ensuring that diet aides meet these physical and sensory requirements is crucial to their ability to contribute effectively to the well-being of senior residents in a senior living community.
