The Dietary Aide is to assist the Cook in the preparation and service of meals. REPORTING: is responsible to the Dietary Services Supervisor. FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Set-up trays with proper dishes, glasses, cups and eating utensils for meals to be served including correct assistive feeding devices as indicated on the tray card
Prepare hot and cold foods and beverages for residents' meals as assigned by the Cook or Dietary Services Supervisor, following recipes and posted menus, for both regular, modified and therapeutic diets
Serve food for meal delivery:
Read tray card. Check carefully for allergies, food likes/dislikes, specific instructions
Place on tray
Correct type and amount of beverages
Correct type of food and texture as ordered by the diet with attention to serving modified and therapeutic diets
Correct portion control
Add correct condiments, i.e., salt, pepper, sugar, butter, etc.
Special requested items
Recheck items on tray with tray card to insure resident receives correct diet
Assist with social dining/meal service if required
Prepare nourishments
Clean food preparation utensils, dishes, and preparation areas after use
Follow posted cleaning schedule utilizing proper procedures
Practice infection control policies and procedures of the department and facility
Practice safety policies and procedures of the department and facility
React appropriately to emergencies and disaster situations
Be courteous, considerate and cooperative when communicating with all facility personnel, residents and public
Attend in-service education and staff meetings as required

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

This job cannot be performed without exposure to the stresses associated with an intimate, 24 hour skilled care environment that delivers care and services primarily to disabled and cognitively impaired residents in an aging population. Examples of these stresses include, but are not limited to: emergency health or safety response, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions to having a loved one in a nursing home, death and dying, oversight of state surveyors, ombudsmen and federal officials, presence of consultants and attorneys, and variable involvement of medical staff.

Kitsap Community Resources kitchen staff help prepare meals for the children in Head Start, Meals on Wheels for the senior population, Naval Daycares and a few Senior Citizen Centers daily. This position is responsible for all aspects of meal service including food preparation, food quality and quantity, storage, sanitation, dishwashing and service to a variety of customers. This position requires doing a variety of duties including but not limited to assisting the cooks, food preparation, food packaging, food quality and quantity, storage, sanitation, all dishwashing, sweeping, mopping, general cleaning duties, organization of freight deliveries, inventory, and daily meal deliveries.
After a 2-week training period, the On Call Kitchen Aide will be called on short notice to cover shifts starting as early as 4:30am and ending as late as 3:30pm Monday- Friday.

Qualifications:
Required Education: High school diploma or GED.

Starting wage is $17.50/hr. up to $20.71/hr. depending on related experience as determined by Supervisor and HR
Schedule: Friday/Saturday 12:30pm-9pm
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in maintaining kitchen work areas and keeping equipment, utensils and food plates clean and orderly.
Sweep and mop floors
Wash food preparation work tables, walls, refrigerators, and refrigerated walk-in storage.
Remove garbage from kitchen area and clean garbage containers
Assist in food/meal delivery and tray retrieval.
Operate an industrial size dishwasher
Assist residents in dining rooms as regulations allow.
Prepare coffee and hot water
Ensure liquids are thickened appropriately when needed and served at proper temperatures.
Prepare trays for residents and ensure accuracy in terms of diet and thickness of liquid.
Set up stations with entrees, soups, salads, breads, condiments, and other food products and utensils.
Provides general stocking duties in service area.
Serves and replenishes food from counters and steam tables and breaks down stations at end of meal periods.
Restock beverage areas.
Interact with residents in serving and dining areas.
Any other duties as assigned.

Perform a variety of duties in the preparation and serving of food for the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs at designated school site(s).
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist with preparation of food items in a timely manner, including school entrees, a la carte items, and special menu items for the purpose of providing nutritious meals and snacks for students.
Assist with supervision of student helpers.
Assist with all functions and duties in the kitchen including receiving, storing, preparing, serving and clean up.
Prepare appropriate quantity of food items by reading and interpreting recipes for large quantities, following USDA meal pattern requirements.
Assist with preparing daily cash records and comply with all cash handling procedures as trained and outlined in manual.
Operate kitchen equipment including slicers, mixers, ovens, and warmers for the purpose of preparing food items and maintaining appropriate food temperatures, following health department rules and regulations.
Lift up to 35 pounds in various containers using safe lifting techniques for the purpose of preparing and delivering large quantities of food items to serve students.
Assist with daily cleanup of kitchen and service areas including cleaning and proper storage of dishes, food items, and kitchen equipment for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions at all times.
