The Dietary Aide performs designated work and cleaning routines for the Dietary Department. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs defined work routines, using various dietary utensils, supplies and equipment as assigned by the Dietary Manager. Provides assistance to the cook in the preparation and service of meals. Meets scheduled meal and snack times. Follows all cleaning schedules and performs cleaning duties as scheduled. Assists in loading food carts and serving meals. Setting up the dining room and helping serve patients. Assists in receiving and storing food supplies. Attends departmental and in-service educational programs. Follows defined safety codes while performing all duties. Adheres to all appropriate sanitation and safety guidelines. Requirements Education/Licensure: One (1) year dietary aide experience required. Prior experience in healthcare food service required. Valid Serve Safe Certification preferred. Ensure that the nutritional needs of patients are met in accordance with practitioners' orders and recognized dietary practices. POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Meal preparation and service Prepares food for patient care units, catered hospital functions and retail sales in the Bistro. Ensures that all foods are hygienically and correctly prepared/cooked and meet the dietary requirements and existing standards for quality, freshness, taste and appearance. Operates a variety of kitchen equipment such as oven, induction range, slicer, blender, mixer, dish machine, disposal, and knives. Food temperatures (cooking/serving) are appropriate and logged accordingly. Standardized recipes followed and trays garnished appropriately. Prepares for next day's production. Hand washing procedures followed/plastic gloves used properly/hair restrained proper. Nutritional care of patients Review tray lists and menus and ensure that all meals and nourishments are prepared according to diet orders and ready at required times. Meal service records maintained. Menus dated and labeled correctly, with proper notations made as needed. Set up patient trays with correct food items for prescribed diets. Menu choices and portion control standards correctly followed; substitutions correctly documented. Discuss the dietary needs of patients with health care team members as needed. Discuss food preferences with patients as needed. Provides home diet instruction materials for all patients on therapeutic diets. Nourishment centers fully stocked and orderly and temperatures maintained and logged. Cleaning and maintenance Keep work area clean, sanitized and orderly at all times. Wash dishes, utensils, pots and pans in timely manner to ensure adequate supply for food production needs. Practice safe food handling throughout the food preparation and clean-up process. Assures work is performed in accordance with federal, state and facility regulations regarding sanitation and infection control. Assist with the maintenance of department equipment and supplies, including inspection of dishes, utensils, service and cooking wares. Alert supervisor to needs and problems concerning equipment and supplies. Follows cleaning schedules and perform cleaning duties as scheduled. Correct dishwashing procedure used (dishwasher and manual); temperatures and chemical concentrations are logged. Job Summary and Responsibilities Northridge Hospital Medical Center is currently seeking a Nutrition Assistant I to join our team. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a food service setting and possess a strong work ethic. The Nutrition Assistant I will be responsible for assisting with food preparation, serving meals, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. * Uses all equipment correctly and safely: disposal dish machine and steam hose. * Follows standardized recipes: proper serving size, ingredients garnish. * Coordinates and prioritizes daily tasks to reduce non-essential interruptions to an absolute minimum. * Sets up and works efficiently on the tray line as scheduled at the assigned station. * Places items on trays accurately according to the patient menu spreadsheet and plating guide. * Knows basic food preparation techniques, including receiving, storage, preparation, handling, and utilization of leftovers. * Completes cleaning tasks as assigned and maintains a neat and clean workstation. * Utilizes stock and foods in proper order according to freshness dates on the product. * Stores supplies and food in an appropriate manner. * Accepts other duties as assigned. Job Requirements * High School or GED required. * Must have a minimum of one (1) year of recent Food and Nutrition experience in a hospital or related setting. * Fire Safety card required within 90 days of hire.
