The colonoscope and gastroscope both trace back to 1806, when Doctor Philipp Bozzini, of Mainz, Germany, first used a tin tube with a candle and mirror to view the bladder — his version of a cystoscope.
More than a century later, Doctor Rudolph Schindler modified the cystoscope into the form of a semiflexible gastroscope, and in 1957, Doctor Basil Hirschowitz developed the first fiberscope.
Founded in 1964, Digestive Specialists has been providing high quality care for digestive diseases in the Greater Dayton Area for the over 50 years.
Gastroenterology Associates was founded by Richard Martens, M.D. in 1970.
He subsequently co-founded Northwest Gastroenterology Associates in 1986.
Suburban Gastroenterology was created by Doctor Dinesh Jain and Doctor Scott Berger in 1993.
Digestive Health Institute was founded on August 1, 1998 upon the completion of the merger of Mid Michigan Gastroenterology Specialists and Gastroenterology Associates.
To that end Digestive Health Institute added another associate, Siaka Yusuf, M.D., in December 2000.
In 2002 Digestive Health Institute had the pleasure of adding another physician to the practice.
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) awarded Digestive Specialists, Inc. and Digestive Endoscopy Center, LLC with the 2014 Eclipse Integrity Award for the 76+ Employees Category.
