Dignity Funerals company history timeline

1994

Dignity plc was formed in 1994.

The Group was created in 1994 through the acquisition by Service Corporation International of Plantsbrook Group plc and Great Southern Group plc.

2002

On 11 February 2002 the Group was the subject of a £235 million management buyout, headed by Peter Hindley (CEO) and Mike McCollum (CFO), and backed by Montagu Private Equity Limited.

In December 2002 the original funding of the management buyout was refinanced by JP Morgan Chase Bank in anticipation of a whole business Securitization.

2006

In February 2006 the Group issued a further £45.55 million Class A notes and £32.50 million Class B notes.

Simon Garside became the fifth generation of his family to join the business and in 2006 Highfield was acquired by Dignity.

2010

The new consolidated shares were listed on 11 October 2010.

2011

A modern, state-of-the-art building which opened in December 2011 and is set up in 23 acres of well-maintained grounds.

2012

The project was awarded a prestigious RIBA Architecture WM Award in June 2012.

2013

In 2013, Dignity acquired 40 funeral business and two crematoria in the north of England from Yew Holdings Ltd.

2021

In July 2021, John Castagno was appointed independent Non-Executive Chairman.
