Qualifications
A degree in Respiratory Care from an accredited respiratory care program is required; minimum associate degree or equivalent as defined by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
Respiratory Therapists must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of all procedures, indications, contraindications and hazards involved in respiratory care, as well as knowledge of equipment utilized in their department. Demonstrates the ability and knowledge required to utilize computers for patient documentation and data gathering for quality care. Must complete orientations, competency validations, and other in-servicing as required by the department and hospital.
Must have current Respiratory Therapy licensure in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position.
Must have Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials as attained through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and maintain active status according to NBRC credentialing requirements.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. Must obtain site-specific specialty credential(s) such as Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), etc.

Compensation and Benefits

Responsibilities
NICU Respiratory Therapist (RCP III)
Position Overview:
To provide all aspects of respiratory care to neonatal patients in the NICU, nursery, labor and delivery, emergency room, surgery, and on transport. Act as a Charge RCP when a RCP IV not available.
* FULL-TIME POSITIONS MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR A $3,000.00 SIGN-ON BONUS AND $1,000.00 EMPLOYEE REFERRAL BONUS *
Qualifications
Salary Range: $38.25 - $57.65 / hour
Minimum Qualifications:
* Graduate of an AMA-approved school of respiratory therapy and be registered (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
* Completion of CMH NICU Training Program or two years documented advance practice clinical experience in NICU, Labor and delivery, competency in neonatal intubation.
* Current RCP license issued by the State of California Respiratory Care Board.
* Must be Registered (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
* Must have current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare providers.
* Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
* Current Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)

Respiratory CarePractitioners:
Perform respiratory care according to policies, procedures, and protocols of Lurie Children's.
Perform patient assessment and analyze laboratory and diagnostic data to assist in patient plan of care.
Institute, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot respiratory care equipment including but not limited to mechanical ventilation, high frequency ventilation, oxygen delivery devices, aerosol delivery devices.
Provide airway care, administer inhaled medications, perform airway clearance, bronchial hygiene, and lung expansion therapy.
Initiate, monitor, and maintain therapeutic gases including heliox, nitric oxide, oxygen and nitrogen.
Evaluate the patient's progress through continuous observation and assessment of responses to interventions, treatments, and therapies and recommends revision in the care plan according to changes in patient needs.
Demonstrate knowledge of pertinent aspects and competency with protocols related to the use of chemical disinfection, high level disinfection, and sterilization as required.
Informed and up to date in respiratory care by utilizing current respiratory and healthcare literature for information and problem solving.
Communicate with the family and members of the multidisciplinary team to identify health care needs.
Anticipate impending emergent situations and intervenes effectively.
Units We Support:
Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU)-
64 single bed unit, committed to providing top-quality care using the most recent advancements in equipment and techniques, with specialized attention to pulmonary issues, critical care, and other specialty needs.
Access to the latest interventions and treatments including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), specialty ventilation techniques, and transplant services .
Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU)-
Level IV facility
One of the top programs in the state/region
Specializes in Neurocritical care for infants with neurological problems, severe respiratory issues, lung disease, birth defects and other genetic disorders, and surgical intervention for complex surgical problems.
Cardiac Care Unit (CCU)-
High Tech, state-of-the-art, 48-bed unit, devoted to the care of young patients with cardiac disease.
Positions we are hiring for:
FT 36 hour: Night shift, 7p-7a,12-hour shifts
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of a Center on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accredited program in respiratory care. Minimal requirement: Associate Degree.
Licensure as a Respiratory CarePractitioner in the state of Illinois, active and in good standing.
Active CRT (certified respiratory therapist) Credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC.)
Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association.
Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff.
Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills, accepting of change, demonstrate adaptability.
Must possess the skills and judgement necessary to implement medical plan of care, clinical interventions and procedures as needed for the patient.

Job Description
The Respiratory CarePractitioner Will:
Conducts patient assessments and interprets clinical data necessary for the delivery of quality patient care.

Provides care for patients requiring ventilator assistance, complex respiratory devices and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Required:
National Board of Respiratory Care RRT credential or CRT credential with a minimum of 5 years' experience in an acute inpatient setting and completion of RRT within 1 year of being hired.
In lieu of RRT credential will accept CRT credential with a minimum of 8 years' experience as a substitute.
Minimum 2 years of post-school experience as a RCP, one year should reflect experience in critical care.
Current Respiratory CarePractitioner (RCP) - Illinois Department of Professional Regulation License.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association. Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (PALS)- American Heart Association.
Completion of a nationally accredited degree program in Respiratory Therapy.
Preferred:

This position performs comprehensive sleep testing analysis and comprehensive evaluation and treatment of respiratory related sleep disorders under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D., D.O., and/or PH.D) or designee. This may involve polysomnography with ventilator and positive airway pressure titrations. Has the ability to complete administrative tasks as well as technical duties. This is a technical position with no supervisory responsibilities but can provide respiratory care guidance to all Polysomnographic Technologist.
Essential Job Functions:
Monitors and maintains mechanical ventilator, continuous positive pressure devices, oxygen and humidity devices.
Assesses patients and diagnostic data in order to adjust ventilator and positive airway pressure settings per protocol.
Assesses and evaluates the patient's respiratory care in consultation with physicians, nurses and other health care personnel.
Possesses adept clinical skill in manipulating ventilators and positive airway pressure equipment.
Troubleshoots basic ventilator and positive airway pressure equipment.
Scores sleep/wake stages and scoring clinical events (such as respiratory events cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing AASM (American Academy of Sleep Medicine) standards.
Generates accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data
Demonstrate critical thinking and ability to work with minimal supervision to analyze complex situations and applies policy.
Evaluates the patient's progress through continuous observation and assessment of responses to interventions.
Maintain continuing education requirements for credential by reviewing literature and attending continuing education meeting and seminars.
Respond to sleep patients' procedural-related inquires by providing appropriate education utilizing sleep center protocols.
Calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment. Selects amplifier settings, obtains quality data, and analyzes data during recordings.
Perform data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identify, correct and document artifact.
Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.)
Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of a CoARC accredited associates degree program in respiratory care required.
Current licensure as a Respiratory CarePractitioner in the State of Illinois required.
Active RRT Credential (Registered Respiratory Therapist) from the National Board of Respiratory Care, in good standing.
RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist) from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) obtained within 1 year of employment required.
PALS Certification within the first year of employment is required.
Current BLS certification required through AHA.
Demonstrated effective written and spoken communication skills.
Ability to move machines and patient weighing in excess of 25 pounds.
Ability to comply with the BRPT standards of Conduct.
